ParticipantRe: Zanussi FJDR1666W Stops during wash programme
Hi there , I will venture my two pennorth as you have no other replies . This is not a machine with which I am familiar , But My first suspect would be the heater . Unless you own suitable test gear and know how to use it , Enlist an engineer through Repairs@ . Remove mains plug from socket before further investigation . Good luck .

ParticipantRe: Bosch WFL100GB
Hi chaps , and thanks for help , comments and advice . Why remove lid to change door boot? Well this is a machine I dont see very often . So I figured , take the lid off and have a look what was involved. In the end I did not even remove the front panel . Job went fairly well , much like a classic Zanussi door boot job . I am still a bit puzzled as to why lid would not move with all visible screws out . In addition to the two rear screws , I noticed 2 small spigots next to these screws , part of the lid brackets , which suggested to me that the lid needs to slide slightly to the rear , before the rear of the lid can be raised . I did not want to force anything . Obviously Black art as Ian says . The two graetest dangers are breaking the lid , and making yourself look a prat in front of the customer .

Hi there . Washing machines are often designed to fill to different levels during different parts of the cycle . If on your machine , it is designed to fill only to a low level on the fabric softener rinse , the water may not rise high enough to start the syphoning action . That is one possibility . If you can see water entering the draw on wash , and normal rinses , I would suspect waste hose problems . You need to pull out the machine so you can see behind it . Running from the back of the machine , you will see 2 or 3 flexible pipes . one of these will be grey , and corrugated . This usually leaves the machine near the bottom . Follow it away from the machine and see where it goes . If it fits onto the U-bend under your sink , the problem is not a waste hose problem . More likely , it is pushed into the top of a stack pipe , A thick plastic vertical pipe fixed to the wall or other vertical surface . Pull the corrugated pipe upwards out of the stack-pipe , and reinsert it so only about 10 cetimeters is inserted . Then try the machine again . If too much pipe is inserted , this is incorrect installation of the machine . Have you just moved house and the machine worked OK at your old place ? If so , Suspect incorrect installation . If It has been working OK at your present home , and no one has interfered with the drain hose , the fault lies elsewhere , and you need to seek help from Repairs@ . Be sure to keep us ionformed . Regards Ken

Hi there , you say that on the wash and rinses , the water is going somewhere other than into the drum . First confirm you have a water input by opening the draw slightly and looking . If you have , my guess is that you have the gray waste hose pushed too far into the vertical stack pipe , and the water is syphoning down the drain . The outlet end of the waste hose must be no lower than three quaters up the door of the machine . Let us know how it goes Disconnect from electricity supply if investigating further . I assume the water is not leaking onto the floor?

Uri Geller? How come he couldnt fix his own appliance simply by staring at it . If it was a dish washer , it was probably jammed by a bent spoon .

Whist there are several possible causes for this fault , The most likely culprits are , A loose tacho magnet , or a faulty tacho coil . Before investigating further , PULL THE MAINS ELECTRICITY PLUG FROM ITS SOCKET . Pull the machine about half a meter out from the wall and lean it back . Make sure its safe , and get someone to hold it .Get a torch , and first look on the floor for any parts laying there . You may find the tacho coil retaining clip . This is a spring clip aout 30cms in diameter . Now look at the motor , the end nearest the front of the machine . The tacho coil is at the centre of the motor end . it is ashallow metal “can” with 2 [red?] wires coming out of it . Is it loose ? If it is , gently pull it out towards you . Behind it is the tacho magnet . It screws into the end of the shaft . If the magnet is loose , unscrew it and refit it with some contact adhesive on the threads . refit coil and retaining clip if you have it , or pt a bit of contact cement to retain it . If nothing is loose , Thecoil is probably open circuit and it is time for professional help unless you own a multimeter and know how to use it .

ParticipantRe: Best Van to buy?
It is definitely a case of horses for courses . I dont beleive in using a sledgehammer to crack a nut . A 5 cwt hi-top van is adequate for my job . I never buy a new van myself . In the past I had a Renault Extra [ brilliant ], a ford courier , not so good , although I later came to the conclusion it had been clocked and done very high mileage . My current van is a Citroen C15D . No power steering , no electric windows , And I love it . Comfortable and easy to drive , good MPG even round town . Tyres , even front ones , seem to last forever . Flying machine , no but fast enough to meet the speed limits which is good enough for me . I bought mine a year ago {Y reg ] for £2400 , and he took in my knackered Courier to pay the VAT . Economical , smart and reliable . Well happy .

ParticipantRe: Proline model TDC7A condenser dryer
Thanks to everyone for help given . Had another look today , and johnnyj was spot on . If you unclip the top half of the pump tank , you can then unclip and lift out the pump/ float switch assembly . Inverting the pump will reveal its inlet which was partially blocked . The tank inlet is on the far wall of the tank , bottom left of tank as viewed from rear of machine . I pushed a double length of flexible insulated wire into this passage and then pulled it out the other end which is reached by removing the condenser . You have to stick your arm right in and reach round the corner . Whilst you are in there you can extract loads of wet smeg , a bit like being a vet I suppose . I am almost certain the fault is now clear . Final working test tomorrow . Thanks again lads . I guess this is what Whitegoods is all about .

ParticipantRe: Rudest cold caller ever
I had a cold call a long time ago , from a woman with a scottish accent ,trying to sell me some video tapes . I told her that I was the wrong person to call , because I belong to a strict religeous sect that forbids any cotact with the media , including video tapes . Se apologised and hung up . Ten minutes later she called me back . She wanted to know more about the sect , and asked how she could join . Then she wanted to know if I would be interested in marrying her ! It makes you wonder who was winding up who .
