Here is a fool-proof way to test a pressure hose. Remove hose from machine . Block one end with yor finger and immerse most of it in a bowl of clean water. Now put the other end in your mouth and blow. Watch hose for bubbles. Now reverse hose end for end and repeat test. If there are no bubbles, the hose is OK.

Thanks again for all help. I have actually found and cleared the fault. Found a dry joint where the microswitch solders onto the PCB track. I carefully cleaned and re-soldered it, and it is running on test as we speak.

Hi Bob, and many thanks for info. Will check boards at the weekend. I am not 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure how to operate this machine. When I connect it to the mains it makes a beep sound, but nothing light up. I did get some lights once after fiddling with the start button for 10 minutes, but I cant get it to do it again. This ties in with what previous owner said, and suggests that the fuse is not blown, but I will check all you said. I thought it might be the switch itself, but who knows. Does anyone know if EMW or QER repairs these boards? Seems a shame to scrap such an expensive machine… Regards ken

Thanks for the replies chaps. Its tru that we pay for insurrance, but I personally would sooner end up slightly out of pocket than make too many insurance claims. Some times, I feel that the customer is at fault in supplying too little information, or inaccurate information. I had a case in point last week. Went to an AEG, customer said when she went to take the clothes out, she opened the door, and water flooded the kitchen. Went out , cleared filter, checked pump, every thing tests OK. Next day she is on the phone, saying It did it again last night. Went out machine is full up to soap draw, and leaking from door gasket. Drained machine down, and then found a badly leaking hot water inlet valve. What she had failed to explain, was that on the first occasion, there was a 3 hour time lapse between the cycle ending, and opening the door. The second time she called to say it did it again, she had not actually used the machine. An increasing problem in this area is migrant labourers who speak no eEnglish. All you get is “Vashing machine Kaput” All we can do is do our best.

Had aproblem with my copter. Flight battery would no longer charge properly. Flight time on each charge reduced to seconds. carger LEDs operating normally. I asumed tha Li-po battery in copter was worn out. the answer was to renew the batteries in the transmitter, which also power the charger. Duh…

This looks a bargain, though I couldnt see any mention of postage costs. This is similar to my larger one. mre controllable but not so forgiving of crashes. Pay your money and make your choice, both are fun.

    Re: Measuring Capacitance

Hi Wilf, Iam not trying to calculate XC which I asume is capacitive reactance, I am trying to calculate the actual value of the cap in microfarads. Thus the formula I use is C= 1,000,000xI/ 2pifc. for 220 volts at 50 Hertz, this simplifies to C=14.4 xI. Thus 14.4 is just a constant and as such has no units.
Hi Baron, and thanks for the explanation of the workings of a single phase motor with the capacitor, which i understand. You pointed out that if a motor is designed to work witha 18 mf cap[or in my case a 16mf] it will not work with a 12 or a 20mf. This is why I wished to measure the cap in the first place.
If dichargeing a cap will damage it, a bleed resistor could be used to limit the current Thanks for all interest and replies.
