Re: AEG washing machine only lasted 5 years

The good news bit was that if you got your brushes done for £25 it was a steal. No point in being annoyed about it – they are a consummable item and will wear out regularly.

Thing is, that since AEG became part of Electrolux the product has changed – the machines are now Zanussi derived, even though they are built in Germany, so it’s partly badge engineering and trading on the name.

I suppose it could have been worse – you could have bought a Servis or a Beko or even a Hotpoint. At least they would have failed under guarantee.

Seriously, if you have £700 to spend on a washer, buy the bottom of the range Miele. Mercedes Benz quality, good wash performance, reliable and bloody expensive to fix if they go wrong. In my (considerable) experience, they don’t.

I have deleted the duplicate post.

Delete 1/5, run spell checked and that’ll be fine. Good job.

    Re: door error

If the door actually locks, but the machine still does not start, you are almost certainly looking at some sort of computer problem. This can be extremely difficult to giagnose acturately, so probably engineer time.

Check repairs@ or Directories for a UKW repairer in your area.

Power off if you plan to investigate further.

OK, if it’s a W103UK, you need the front half of the plastic tank (P/no C00066530), about £50 from memory. I should warn you that it is a monstrous job to undertake and the two halves are often difficult to persuade together.

An email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will confirm prices and you may order if you wish.

Re: Zanussi Tumble Drier that tumbles but won’t dry!

The classic fault on these machines was the thermostat wiring burning out on the heating element. The correct repair is to replace the heater/thermostat assembly. P/no is 1254199-21/7, an email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk to for confirmed prices and ordering.

Power off if you wish to investigate further; failing that check repairs@ or Directories for a UKW repaire in your area.

Re: F&P Smartdrive GW 503-K Display works fine but just

    Hi Ian,
I’m a long way away, with some parts and service manuals – very little practical experience (I’ve only ever seen three of these over here). With a bit of luck Kiwi or Fast+Pro will pick up on this and be able to advise you further.

Re: F&P Smartdrive GW 503-K Display works fine but just

I would think that the fault lies with the lid switch. Does the 12 minute light go out when the lid is closed?

To enter diagnostics, hold down the wash temperature down button and the power.

If you check at the lower end of the forum topics page you will find an Oz forum – there are numerous F+P threads which you can check.

Re: Smart drive 501 all lights on won’t start

First one was the “size switch” error, presumably corrected if you entered diagnostics. Second one indicates a cold water valve fault. Valve may have failed, although being a 12v device, this is fairly unlikely. It should read approx 15 ohms. Check wiring to valve and computer board, if all ok it’s the board itself.

I have had a few of these where other components have been taken out by the bang, notably on the digital machines (which yours is). Check the loom by all means – the outer door panel has to be removed for full access; exercise extreme caution, as you can shave with the edge of the inner door. Not really a regular problem with these ones, but it can happen. I fear for your digi-board though.

    Re: SMEG DW1710E Dishwasher

It’s not a capacitor, although it is a capacitance device. As it is fitted before the mains switch you do theoretically have power to the device at all times. Ultimately they break down and Kaboom. The appliance will run without the suppressor if you wish to prove the point to yourself, expect lines on the telly and crackles on the radio.

    Safety first,
