    Re: HOTPOINT AQUARIUS ( 2000 ? )

I take it the holiday was in Thailand?

Oil spots/noise/bangings probably point to bearing failure. If this machine is under 5 years old it will be cheaper for you to pay Hotpoint’s call out charge as you will receive your parts for free. If the machine is over 5 years old check repairs@ or the Directories section for a UKW repairer in your area.

Difficult to be more precise without the model number.

“Sun” symbol is usually indicative of a dryer function. Is it off if the dryer is not set?

Bear in mind that any testing must be done with the power off……

A typical heater should give a reading of 20-30 ohms. The safety stats should read near as spit zero. You will only get accurate results with the components disconnected from the rest of the circuits. Check also for broken wiring at the door hinge.

You haven’t answered as to whether you have circulation or not – no circ = tripped safety every time.

If you are not confident, please get pro help – check Repairs@ or Directories for a UKW repairer in your area.

    Re: candy water level system?

Ok, seeing as no-one’s coming back on this and I’m not personally au faite with this particular machine, a little general info to get you started.

The water level sytem works on the basis of the displacement of air, so there is a level switch (usually round), a skinny connecting hose, which in turn runs back to an air chamber. This and occasionally the hose can choke with food detritus.

You need to be able to access under the machine (Awkward – this is an integrated one, yes?) and find the level switch. Usually round in design with 3 or 6 terminals and the aforementioned skinny hose. Follow this back and the point at which it joins on is the collecting chamber. This may be a part of the sump (the area where the filters fit in the base), a fill matrix on the side of the machine, or occasionally a separate chamber attached to one of the hoses under the machine. Anyway, it needs to be cleaned out of any deposits, as the reduction in volume of the chamber affects the displacement of air and can cause flooding.

Power off of course before attempting any of the above.

If you are not confident, check Repairs@ or Directories for a UKW repairer in your area.

Naah, we had a PM exchange as he was trying to work out who various people were in the Galleries, and sent his old bus pass photo (!) through by way of thanks. Not sure about that………..

Anyway seeing as he posted it Martin, why do you hate him?

Hi Matt, sorry for the delay – forgot that Alexa has buzzed off for a week. This code tells us that the display module has failed due to a processor start-up error. It may boot up if the power is cut at the wall for about 5 seconds, but equally well, may not.

I confess, I scrapped it. Spent another couple of hours on it on Sunday, including leaning it back at a quite significant angle and proved to my astonishment that water can indeed run up hill…. 🙄

I do HATE being beaten by a machine………

Re: A Sign of the Times?

Interesting point. MikeM made a point (I think…) that the beauty of the digital control system was that you could run a machine down the production line that much faster because you didnt have to pay someone to stick on 80 odd wires – couple of edge connectors and that’s it – thereby reducing time and human involvement. The technology bit’s actually rubbish – it’s about savings in production costs.

Late, feeling cynical. But, probably right 😕
