    Re: Hotpoint always cool wash

    John,
The machine does not use thermostats to control temperature, it uses a thermistor circuit.

    Prewash is cold fill only.

The symptons you describe can be one of two things :
Heater failure/out of circuit (broken wiring).
Programmer failure. Difficult to check but if heater OK it’s about all that’s left.

Check hot valve function by selecting 95c (C?) wash (no prewash); water should come through the right-hand compartment of the soap drawer.

Heater is part number 1602026, programmer is 1603787. Prices from spares@ukwhitegoods.com if required.

If you are going into the machine, power off please………

3 is to do with the temperature control circuit – sensor failed, broken wiring at the sensor very common problem. Power off if you’re investigating further.

Re: Fisher & Paykel 701 fails at spin, displays short wa

If it’s the 4 minute led, this indicates wiring and connections being at fault. If it’s the 6 minute led, this is a mechanical fault – from your description of poor draining you need to investigate the pump area for function, blockages etc as a starting point.

Safety first – power off please.

    Re: Appliance recommendations

If you’re going with Bosch for the d/w, you won’t go too far wrong sticking with them for the rest. Neff is also popular and Bosch made. Whether you can do it all in stainless as Martin suggests and stick to your budget is a bit debatable.

CDA is a fairly new name in built-in stuff and the cooking range is quite impressive. Do not buy their dishwasher though…….

Re: Hotpoint Aquarius WD420 door lock time

The door lock works on a ptc, it is a sealed non adjustable unit. The computer circuitry merely supplies power to the lock.

Your clothing will not get creased in the two minutes it takes for the lock to deactivate. If this is a problem you would be advised to select a programme with deeper rinses, gentler wash action and a slower spin speed.

    Re: margherita 2000 troubleshooting

    Hi Mojo,
1st, cancel the error. Switch off, turn dial to a black dot and switch back on. The slow flash should return……. Now switch off and reset the programme, and start. When the fault occurs and the dial starts clunking round, the power light will flash in a pattern, ie 1234 pause, repeat. This will help us identify the problem.

If you can hear water running through the soap drawer and not appearing in the drum I would check that the drain hose is not either flat to the floor or that the end of the pipe is not below the wash level of the water – the machine will syphon the water through.

Please stop shouting at us 😀

    Re: F&P Smartdrive GW701-U problem

What F+P have tried to do is very sensible – the binary coding system can impart far more detailed fault information than the codes we’re stuck with over here. Fair point though – a dedicated fault lamp as well would make people realise that all the lamps are telling them something.

Alexa will no doubt have something to add to this………. 😀

    Re: Cannibalise WMA31/WMA34 (1000 spin) for WMA33 (1300 spin

    Alang,
You would honestly recommend that people go and buy Servis or Indesit? I take it that this “advice” is based on your years of experience in the trade and a study of the recurrent problems which appear in these forums?

Get real – Hotpoint washers have their own problems, which the company has to some extent addressed. Indesit and Servis? Limitless problems which are extensively documented throughout these forums and totally unaddressed by their manufacturers. A total waste of £200. Hoover is adequate, could do better, Zanussi is a bit better, and Bosch offers customers reasonable value for money coupled to a two year warranty.

Rather than than pull alang’s comments, I would advise UKW readers to ask questions. Honest, considered opinions will be forthcoming from the Trade members; which I can assure you will not include advising people to waste their money on rubbish.

    Re: Zanussi FJ1033 overflow

David, the coil reading is acceptable; Dave’s concern would be the magnet in the middle being secure on the shaft. Also, check the motor for earth leakage – armature leaking to earth can over-ride the speed control circuitry and cause the motor to try and spin. If all OK, you’ll be looking at some sort of problem with the electronics.

    Power off, of course…………..

Re: Bosch S210 – water not being taken in – inlet valve fail

Aha, one of them……… Before splashing out on the valve, you need to check the “Fill Baffle to Sump Transfer Hose” – or in the trade “the roundy roundy hose”. When you have the power off, tip the machine back and you will see a clear hose in the the rear right quadrant of the machine, going round in several circles. You can now deduce why its the roundy roundy hose. This will almost certainly be clagged up and will need flushing out. You will be astonished how much comes out…….. Clean out the spigots where the hoses join on as well. When it gets blocked, it causes nuisance operating of the pressure shut off on the inlet valve.

The actual model number of the machine will be on a label on the cabinet door surround up at the top BTW.

Re: ‘No Call Out Charge’ beware!!!

It doesn’t get that far with us. Julia is a pefectly competent engineer, and will give a diagnosis and approximate estimate down the phone. However, she finishes with “It’ll cost you £40 if he comes out – up to you”. Soon sorts out the mickey takers and I go out to work.

The only exceptions are door catches, ‘cos we can do two of them an hour for a bit less.

Sort it all out before you go is the message.

    Cheers,
    Chris.
