    Maggie,
The compressor is supposed to be sat on four rubber mountings to isolate the vibration from the chassis of the freezer. If not, this would generate a metallic/knocking noise. Otherwise I would contact your repairer and insist on further investigation.

TDS lists error code “A” as a fill problem. A4 is not listed. As you have stated that the machine does fill, this may be related to water level control – ie machine not sensing water level correctly. This is probably related to the fill matrix on the side of the machine collecting sludge and is a singularly awkward problem to resolve.

An engineer may well be the best option. Check “Repairs@” for an engineer in your area, or pop up your postcode in here and someone should pick up on it.

Re: creda washer dryer IWD12 DOOR STUCK SHUT

    Oh dear,
You’ve picked a good one here – it’s not a Creda at all. As you may be aware, Hotpoint/Creda fell into the hands of Merloni several years ago, and this is the result. Your machine is a re-badged Indesit/Ariston appliance, adapted to be integrated. If you check the forums for the Indesit “W” series machines and Ariston “A”series machines you’ll see what we’re up against here.

Firstly, cut the power to the machine. The lock is a simple delay lock, so after two minutes it should unlock…….. If it doesn’t, this may be the root of the problem, and as you suggested – a mechanical problem.

Given that this machine is integrated, I would suggest that you seek professional help – this is a complex appliance and the there are various possibilities as to what is going in on with it.

Check Directories for a UKW engineer in your area, sign into Repairs@ or simply stick your postcode up here and someone will pick up on it.

    Dan,
Ignore the hob, it is a separate item. If you check around the door opening, you should find four screws. When removed, the oven can be slipped forward and the other rating label will be revealed – on most of them it’s on the top of the oven box but on a few it’s on the back. You’re looking fora number starting “ADP—-” or perhaps “APM—-“. I’m afraid that without it you have virtually no chance of resolving this.

Sorry Mark, GB/01 has cross piece 283725, BSH list is £38.16 – not bad really. IIRC Maddocks do a bearing/seal set for about £14.

As Repairs@ is now live, we need to act immediately on the Advisory Council setup, if only to cover our tails if there is instant media interest. Some sort of defacto arrangement until the meeting perhaps?

Intermittant spin AND heat would point towards the water level control system. However, not draining will also prevent spin BECAUSE of the water level control system. The most likely culprit on this is a worn drain pump becoming erratic in its operation.

Given that you have a combination fault here I would suggest getting an engineer – check the Directories section, pop up your postcode in here or try out the new Repairs@ section.

Blockage in the drain hose itself perhaps? You should be able to blow through it easily. Is it coupled up under the sink – the spigots are so and soes for choking, especially the ones with the cross piece in.

Have you checked that the pressure switch is clicking? It’s a two level switch, so if you blow gently into the switch you should hear 2 clicks as it pressurises and 2 clicks as it decompresses.

Beyond that I suppose the only culprit left is the pump itself. Old/worn pumps can run slow and not clear the water efficiently. Is it one with a cooling fan or what is called a magnetic pump? The one with the fan should spin freely if the fan or impellor is turned by hand. A magnetic pump will resist and “ping” each 1/4 turn. If it is stiff or spinning free, it’s knackered.

There is no filter on these appliances.

    Good luck,
    Penguin45.

No, it’s a perfectly adequate machine – if you’ve got a vary spin option on the machine I’d back it off to 1200 and save the high spin for the bedding.

    Good luck with it,
    Penguin45.
