Re: AEG Lavamat 16830 Washer/Dryer DRYER PROBLEM

Blocked condenser can do this, as can the heater safety tripping. Additionally, there is a sensor in the hose connecting the housing to the tub. It can fails, but more often the wiring breaks. Again, no error code, but the dryer stops. Also worth checking that the solenoid coil on the water valve for the condenser trickle feed is working.

Stay safe – power off if you intend to sort this yourself.

Re: Quality machines – how much…?

There is a small electronic board which runs the motor on the back of the timer unit – that would not stop the machine starting, so the problem is elsewhere. Burnt out wiring, failed mains suppressor or the like is possible. There is a reasonable chance of a simple repair.

However………. at 12 years old, the machine is well into it’s design life (They are designed to last X,000 cycles, depending on the build quality), so there may be other problems in the near future. Also, there is no longer full parts availability – a lot of the cosmetic parts are now obsolete.

If you can get a local call-out for £30, I’d do it and keep your fingers crossed.

Lift the latches at the rear of the lid and give it a thump backwards.

Define “stopped working” – you haven’t given us anything to go on.

Do not touch the container – that’s the softener regeneration unit,

If you are replacing and want something decent, you need to set a budget of at least £350, which pitches you into the lower end Bosch machines. Reasonable quality and a 2 year warranty is attractive, probably won’t be German-built though.

    Re: September 2009

Seeing as there is discussion on the Forums about venues for the meetings, I thought that I might just put my 2 pen’orth in here for a bit of considered thought.

The meetings fall into two categories – the big one, early in the year and the small one which has just occured. I assume that the early one sees the enthusiam of a new year bursting forth, the latter is later in the year as enthusiasm starts to wane.

I’ll be honest, I don’t like Hiltons. Big, impersonal, corporate…… I don’t see us as corporate. However, if we’re going to “play the game”, the early year meeting needs to be at one of these or its like.

The late year meeting could be held in a more intimate setting. There is a clear early and late year pattern. The September meeting is smaller and more repairer orientated, so perhaps we could find another venue not unlike (but rather better than) The Millers.

I suspect that there is some confusion developing between meetings, as the trade in general will attend the February one and not the September one. I suggest that in future the February meeting is clearly promoted as a UKW event, open to all parties and that we accept the September meeting as a repairers/WTA meeting and promote that as such.

One meeting organised by each body makes rather more sense to my mind. We could tailor the later meetings to a lower budget which may offer greater appeal to the repairers, which may in turn encourage a higher attendance.

I dunno. Late night ramblings, discuss.

Old, tired hotplates…… It’s knackered. The replacement of all the plates will exceed the cost of replacing the hob.

With regard to your comments about the efficacy of the forum, it’s just that – a forum. Pure pot luck who’s about and may have knowledge of the products posted.

Pretty much as described – be careful removing the metering tank. The back is a polythene type sheet and is easily penetrated.

Difficult to give you an exact reply without the model number. It’s often etched into the top edge of the stainless steel door inner panel; you’ll need to catch the light against it to read it.

The drain pump will run continuously is the plastic tray under the machine has water in it. There is a float switch arrangement which, if activated, switches on the pump and over-rides the programme. Commonest cause of leaks is overflow from the fill system. You’re looking for this in the front l/h corner:

And this (or similar) under the l/h side panel.

Both fill with fat deposits and need stripping and cleaning. Other leaks are possible……..

Power off if you intend to do this yourself.

    Re: Whirlpool AW0 D5050 pump

5p in the pump outlet spigot is always a good one, blockage in the tub to pump hose is entirely possible. You may need to remove the hose completely as socks and stuff can sit on top of the ecoball at the tub end of the pipe.

    Power off first, please.

Dis-assembly is the only proper way. Quite unusual with a Whirlpool one, providing the filters have been located correctly.
