To be absolutely fair, there are times when I do need to use Connect. In those cases, I ask DC to do the honours, which he does with extreme efficiency.

We have to be seen to be absolutely even-handed, regardless of what we know to be the truth. It would be foolish to think that Connect do not see the price discussions which roll around the forums from time to time – that they choose not to respond speaks volumes.

You won’t like it very much…. The plastic tray hinges from the back – release a couple of screws in the front corners and the base will swing down. The valve is on the left, just inside the water matrix. Access is very tight, but you’re looking for 3.5 – 4 kOhms resistance across the solenoid coil on a working unit.

Star/run relay dropping out will do this – all action just stops after a while if the relay is losing it.

Modern controls – you either buy something nice and simple with a timer knob to turn which counts down with a “tick-tick” action, or you buy something with a display and flashing lights (pcb) for rather more. When the pcb throws a wobbly, it’s more than the machine is worth to fix it…….

4 tags instead of 2? Just make sure that they’re diagonally opposite each other and you’ll be fine.

Note: Buy basic test meter – dead cheap these days and a resistance test would show which pairs of terminals are linked together in seconds.

You absolutely will get what you are prepared to pay for. WK is definitely budget end these days – find an extra few quid and get get a Zanussi with timer (not pcb) control and you’ll get a good few years with little bother.

The pump motor is a twist-fit from underneath the machine. Power off, tip it back, remove the wires and release the locking barb and turn the pump motor body. You need to get it tested for resistance – anywhere around the 200ohm mark is acceptable. Check that the impellor can spin freely – it should resist then “ping” every 1/4 of turn. If it feels stiff or spongy, it’s had it and needs replacing.
