Have you checked for damage on the module? Often the interlock goes short circuit and blows strips on the PCB.

I think most of us have bypassed them and just send the boards to EMW.

I’m probably wasting my breath but usually you don’t need to change the spider on the large drum Hotpoints as the seal does not run on the shaft surface.

I ordered some fan oven elements from them this morning and didn’t have a problem.

You could buy a wheelchair adapted van / estate, although it may need to be a bit bigger than the Combi. My Uncle had a high top Doblo which could accommodate one back seat passenger plus the wheelchair.

I would have thought Hotpoint would have set times for different jobs. If the engineer happens to be slower than most, the customers should not have to pay extra. :rolls:

Looks like where Madmac lives you only have to pick up a fluorescent tube and it glows green!

I think the suspension positions are different on the WMA. You may be able to mix & match if you are reconditioning machines though. You could use the fascia, modules, motor etc from a scrap sealed drum machine in an earlier WF model. In that way you might convert a bottom of the range to a top of the range version.

I thought EMF was just another name for voltage. 😕

I also have a Combi but I don’t have any bother getting them in. I keep an old rug in the back which rolls out over the bumper to protect it. With the machine still on the sack truck I lean the bottom edge of the machine to rest on the bumper then pivot the machine up level then just waggle it into the van. This means you are never lifting the whole weight.

    Re: hotpoint bearing tool

You actually need 2 kits, the one for the old WM machines then the additional kit that upgrades it to also cover the larger drum models. Part numbers are 5600130 & 5600172 respectively. As they say, they don’t work if the large bearing has broken up though. I have an insert that I had made to fit in the groove of the WMA outer race. That also doesn’t work though unless I weld it to the race with the MIG. 🙁

Yes, the exam is done on a PC. The Elgin college where I took it has a very high pass rate. If a lot are failing it is down to poor teaching as it is not difficult. The exam is also marked by the computer so you get the result a few minutes after you finish. I was driving home, knowing I’d passed, before the exam officially finished!

    Re: Hot motor!

Not good news. You need a new motor. It could be that the motor overheated if the one brush was not sliding properly and not being held well against the commutator. The motor only needs to overheat once to get a fault known as “shorted turns”. This is when the motor windings get hot and melt the insulation coating that keeps them apart. Adjacent windings then touch each other, resulting in the sparking you observed.
