I made a useful discovery today. Those little pumps you spin using an electric drill will pump air, so they don’t need to be primed. I was looking for a way to start a syphon, not involving the human mouth. It was actually to bleed a central heating radiator which has its pipes going up high to get over a doorway. It worked well. For a washer I would poke a length of garden hose down through the soap drawer housing and use the drill pump.

HTH,
Steve.
Last time I checked, EMW didn’t touch these boards but that was 5 years ago so things may have changed. I do live in a very hard water area so I guess it could be limescale.

Very ’60s flower power! Does anyone remember the marble effect Hotpoint Liberator?

ParticipantRe: Logging In
Strange. I don’t think it’s to do with cookies as I cleared those a few days ago and it has not helped. When I try to login there is always a password filled in already. If I click on the password box this disappears but if I then click on username it re-appears. I normally only use Firefox but I just tried it on IE and it did the same. I don’t have login details saved for ukw in IE. 😕

ParticipantRe: Washer Heaters
It’s a pity I didn’t ask this question years ago! I had always assumed there was some trick to fitting them and I was just inept!

I don’t think I would dare try to sell one of those!

I know this is an old post but there is a website for collectors of such machines:
http://www.vacuumland.org/
It’s an American site but there will be UK members who might be interested.Phidom

Yes, there are corporate cowboys as well as individual ones. My bank account is also missing over £100 as the result of a con trick. When I moved from Scotland to Hungary I took out European breakdown cover with Green Flag. At the time there was no mention of direct debits, automatic renewal etc, I paid with my Clydesdale bank debit card over the phone. When the paperwork came through the terms and conditions was a 30 page book so I’ve never attempted to read it all, just checked on things I needed to know. What I didn’t see is on page 25 of the book there is a paragraph that says they do automatic renewal and consequently they helped themselves to £103 of my money last month. I don’t even drive that vehicle now as I got a Hungarian registered car.

ParticipantRe: Torx etc.
Thanks, I have sussed it now anyway. Looks like I need an E14 or just possibly an E16. An 11mm socket does fit but they are very tight and I do need the proper tool. Sadly,no Halfords or equivalent in Hungary!

ParticipantRe: 1/4" Olive
No, I’ve measured the pipe with a micrometer and it is definitely 0.250″. I might try poking the 1/4″ pipe into a bit of 8mm pipe and soldering round the join and then attach that to the rubber tube that goes to the bottle regulator.

ParticipantRe: 1/4" Olive
Thanks for the olive, Bryan. Unfortunately it’s too small. I can’t measure the I/D directly but it just fits nicely over a screwdriver bit that measures 0.240″. I would think it is meant to be 6mm (0,236″).

ParticipantRe: 1/4" Olive
Thanks don. It’s about £6 including post and VAT but I might end up ordering one off them.
