    Re: do you sell machines?

I never go looking for machines to recon. but if, for example, I quote £80 for a bearing job and the customer decides to buy new instead I take the machine, do the bearings and sell it on to make my money that way. I’ve never thought it worthwhile trying to sell new machines as the trade prices for one off seem to be about the same as you pay in Tesco, Curries etc.

Yes, it’s an inverter one so I did wonder if it was a Panasonic in disguise. Only trouble is, the old one is brown, not an easy colour to find these days. Possibly a new stainless steel microwave would look OK in the original brown surround.

Sounds like there could be a short circuit somewhere, possibly in the terminal block where the mains cable enters the machine. With the plug out take the lid off and do a visual inspection of the wiring for anything burnt.

    Re: Yell.com

I’m absolutely gobsmacked 😯 . I decided to go with this advertising package for the PAT testing side of the business and today received the proof for my ad. in Electrical Inspection & Testing. I was just amending the proof when the phone rang. It was someone else from Yell.com. Now it seems I have only agreed to go in the Aberdeen Yellow Pages book, not Yell.com!
I can easily believe they would misrepresent the advertising over the phone but for them to have the nerve to back up the falsehood by email beggars belief. 👿
I think I will print out the email and put it in with the proof, after writing on it “Please confirm that this is the package I have purchased.”

    Re: Integrated Microwaves

Those dimensions don’t make sense though. If you had a 600mm wide microwave in a 600mm unit the surround could only be the width of the wood and it is clearly wider than that. Perhaps it is designed to be cut to size? 😕

Re: AEG Lavamat 74620 Water Distributor

I don’t think that will work as I think the distributor tells the electronics when it is in the right position for the particular bit of the programme. You might find it gets so far through the wash and sits waiting for the distributor to move. If the device is still turning the switch part that produces these feedback signals it should be OK though.

    Re: Hoover

Nothing on Google for that number. I would try a fairly high rated triac such as a BT139-600. This is a 600 volt, 12 Amp device so is up to the job and is available from Connect. Only concern is the gate current as you don’t know the spec. of the Hoover triac. If the alternative is a BER machine it’s got to be worth trying though.

Last lot I got was Rite-Lok RT38. I don’t think it was particularly expensive. 😕

If there’s slight wear on the shaft where the bearings go you can try Loctite Bearing Fit. You do need to degrease the surface carefully.

Oh, with my customers it is usually broken teeth on the timer knob bits. To change the cam you have to remove the timer screws, which easily get dropped when trying to put them back

I thought they used the ZEM / Sole brushes much like a modern Zanussi. The only difference might be the spade width.

These use a solid state switch, similar to a triac to operate the pump. They sometimes go short circuit. In other words module repair or new module required.
