ParticipantRe: Pat testing – training/equipment costs Vs income
I had the same idea as you and did the course about 18 months ago. Unfortunately I cocked up on my purchase of a tester. I wanted one with the earth leakage test as well as the usual Earth bond and insulation checks. This is needed for testing computer equipment, some of which can be damaged by the 500 volt insulation test. I bought a Seaward Primetest 100. This does do the earth leakage but it can’t be used on most computers as you can’t turn off the insulation test, it’s an automatic sequence :rolls: I also bought a software CD on Ebay but that was also useless as the forms it produces don’t conform to the IEE Code of Practice.
It seemed that I would have to spend a lot more to get a suitable tester so I’ve not bothered to do any more until the last few weeks. I was using the Seaward to test appliances I had repaired but didn’t offer testing as a service. A few weeks ago a national PAT testing service rang me to ask if I could do some testing at a local hair salon. I didn’t know how they got me as I’ve never advertised PAT testing but I suppose it may have been from a health & safety website where I had posted in PAT discussions.
I explained the above story to the PAT guy and we eventually got to the subject of me wanting a better machine. The firm sell new and used testers co I sent my Seaward to them to see if they would do a part ex. They offered me £100 but the tester I chose from their website, a used Metrel M2142 was already reserved for another customer.
I had a look on Ebay and found the same model of Metrel on auction at a starting price of £200. I was the only bidder and now have the machine, it arrived yesterday. It will do everything I want, it even comes with a CD and an RS232 cable to connect to a PC. There is an optional printer but that can wait until I’ve got plenty of PAT testing work!Phidom

It’s OK, I rang Karcher, who answered the phone straight away with a real human being who was very helpful 😀

I’ve not tried it but I’m told you can remove duff ICs using a small gas torch. You have a screwdriver under the IC, play the flame over all the pins on the other side then a quick lever with the screwdriver and it pops out. Might not work on double sides boards though.

ParticipantRe: Hoover CA230 Drum Bearing Seal
If there’s a spring round the lip it should always face the bearing otherwise it could get rotted by the wash water.

ParticipantRe: A real pain in the neck.
I’ve also had neck problems in windy weather. For driving I find I can manage by twisting my torso instead of my neck. Having a van with solid sides does not help with visibility but at some left junctions it helps to pull out toward the centre of the road then sharply left just before you reach the dotted line. That way you are facing the way you need to look.

It’s like the old Hotpoint WMs & 95 series, cabinet front and tub front removed. The blow up diagram is on Connect Mediator.

You can either wait for it to dry out or speed up the process using a hair dryer.

ParticipantRe: New Hotpoint WT741 Error F-10
Check if it is filling up quick enough on rinse. I had a similar Indesit machine this week that was giving an H2O error. I found it filled correctly for the first few seconds on a wash then went down to a trickle. On rinse it filled at a trickle from the start until eventually the error came on. I’ve ordered a new valve but won’t know if that’s the answer until it arrives.

ParticipantRe: Down to earth elements.. Any Ideas???
Try putting one or two in your own oven and heating them that way. Perhaps the dampness is in the ends near the terminals.

We will need the make and model number to answer your question. 😉

ParticipantRe: Guestion about whirlpool AWO series and PCB Cards
They won’t be identical but might be similar enough to work OK. If the alternative is 2 scrap machines you have nothing to lose. Make sure you do a sketch of what wires go where. New Whirlpool spares are very expensive and as far as I know, nobody currently offers a repair service for these boards.

Yes, not much work this week and too cold to do anything outside. I seem to spend my spare time buying stuff on Ebay and other websites. Just had a bank statement this morning 😯

ParticipantRe: New Beko CDA647FW/1 Pcb with no guarantee from masterpar
Yes, it is normal practice with boards so you would get the same response from the other suppliers. I’m stuck with a board that cost £110 for an electric shower that failed to cure the fault. All other components on the shower could be tested with the meter so I’m pretty sure the board is faulty but I was not going to fork out another £110 so I could not bill the customer for even a call-out. 🙁

Have a look at your old one and compare with this to see if it would fit:
