ParticipantRe: Zanussi washing machine model FS1555w
You could try a high temperature maintenance wash as the stuff may be sticking to soap residue on the inside surfaces. The last time I had to deal with something like this was on the older type Zanussi with a fluff filter. I had to find an old filter and cut it off, leaving just the cap. I then did lots of rinses without the filter in place to flush out the material. On yours the filter is not really a fluff filter so may not tend to get blocked so easily.

Ooooops! Since I heard about the Zanussi sealed tanks (worked on my first one on Friday with jammed drum) I have been recommending Bosch. Who do I recommend now? 😕

ParticipantRe: Ecover & low temp washes.
Interesting. I have renewed the spider on a friends old style Hotpoint 1st Edition twice in the last 12 months. She uses Ecover.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint Smart Cards
The suggested retail price for module plus card is about £105 so I can’t see me fitting many anyway. On machines under 5 years old I will advise the customer it will be cheaper to get Merloni to do the repair. On machines over 5 years old I will quote them £135 to do the job and if someone actually tells me to go ahead at that price I will decide whether to invest in the reader etc.

I used one of those machines for a while 3 or 4 years ago but ended up scrapping it when short of space, although it still worked OK. I used to do some repairs for a shop in Elgin where Dented Porsche has also traded. For a while they had a marble effect machine of this range stood outside the shop (perhaps they hoped someone would nick it 😆 ) At the time I assumed it’s owner had covered it in fablon but I’ve since heard that they sold them in a marble effect finish 😯

On trade sales a supplier will generally have about a 10-15{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} margin on most things so they need to shift volume to make any money but, even with a £75 order then they will have perhaps £10-15 at it usually. So, you can see that when you take that shipping will likely cost about £10 per order by courier that there’s not a whole lot of wiggle room there. Basically they need large orders to make it worth bothering with and small order values aren’t worth getting unless you can make it pay.
K.They must be making more than that or the various suppliers would be more closely comparable on price. Also I would have thought the suppliers would get quantity discounts from sending large numbers of parcels with a particular courier. My guess would be they pay more like £3 per parcel. It’s a pity they can’t have a scale of delivery charges related to order value rather than all or nothing eg £7 on £25 order, £4 on £40 order, £2 on £60 order or some such.

Before purchasing the induction hob you should consider the possible repair costs if it goes wrong. There are 3 circuit boards inside, 2 identical ones that retail at over £350 and another that is over £400. I went to one that had blown 2 of these boards. You may also need a new set of pots and pans for induction cooking.

I’ve done quite a few of that model and they have all been the small bearing Zanussi kit with 50239964005 spider.

ParticipantRe: Connect delivery charges
I stopped using Seme when they raised the free delivery threshold. I probably can’t drop Connect completely as they are my only source for some parts but some orders could certainly be switched to Masterpart if it works out cheaper.

ParticipantRe: Cancellation of Contracts, new regulations!
Sounds like bad news for the window cleaner who can’t read & write but sometimes gets asked to do extra tasks like cleaning out gutters. Isn’t it always the way, we all have to incur extra work and expense in order for the government to clamp down on a small minority of fly-by night traders. 👿 I got sent the leaflet about doorstep selling but I didn’t look at it as I don’t do doorstep selling :rolls:

Have you checked the filter?

ParticipantRe: I’ve got a shrivelled doofer.
I think this has been mentioned on here before but 10 pin bowling places also have problems with chemicals attacking appliances. The polish they use to lubricate the bowling alleys reacts with the washer door seals which swell up and stretch out of shape.

ParticipantRe: Time for a rethink.
I had a rather accusing sounding answerphone message from Jade at Connect the other day, wondering why I’m not ordering much lately….. Actually I’ve been fairly busy for the last few weeks but not repairing appliances. Friends have been keeping me busy with jobs like rewiring, bathroom re-fitting, hanging doors, moving a hot water cylinder etc etc. I also do boat wiring and got a couple of days work doing that. I’m certainly glad the house is paid for though as it would be quite a worry otherwise.
This morning I went to a house where there was clearly a very sad atmosphere. I just got on with the job but when I’d finished the old chap told me what it was all about. He had recently lost 2 teenage grand-daughters in a car accident. I was shown a photo of the 2 gorgeous youngsters. Apparently a van driver had fallen asleep at the wheel, wandered across the road and wiped out 3 youngsters on their way to work in Aberdeen. It kind of puts our worries about work and income into perspective somehow 🙁

ParticipantRe: QER Electronics
I am currently in dispute with them over a Zanussi board I sent in for repair. Machine was over-filling and I had checked the pressure vessel, hose, switch etc so thought it must be the module. The board came back with a bill for the full repair fee. When I put the board back in the fault remained. I phoned QER to tell them and they said to sent it back again. In the meantime I was advised on here that the heater forms part of the level control circuitry on these Zanussis. Sure enough, the heater turned out to be open circuit and a new heater rectified the filling fault. I am willing to pay QER a reduced fee for testing the module but they ignore my emails and keep sending bills for the full repair fee. If any QER staff are on this forum they are welcome to respond with their side of the story.
