Yes, once or twice I’ve wished I had a bottle of smashing up liquid (TNT). Once was a Hotpoint, WM22 or some such I was preparing for use in one of the many migrant workers flats. I was having bother with the motor pecker/ interlock setup. I had changed the door, the interlock, the interlock cable and the pecker and the thing still didn’t work properly. 👿

They do have a motor TOC. Usually if the motor gets that hot you will notice the outer plastic casing of the machine feels hot. If the machine still feels cool perhaps you have a faulty TOC on the new motor. If you still have the old motor you could try the TOC off that.

How do you get into Mediator? It used to be a menu item but it’s not there on the new site menu.

Thanks Martin. I’ve ordered the Homespare one. Unfortunately they no longer supply the belt so I will have to get that from Connect 😕

Just looked again I see there is one listed on Connect but it works out dearer than buying the bearings and seal:

I don’t think they do a kit. You have to order the seal and individual bearings. I think Masterpart bearing kit AR05105 should be the right one.

    Re: Belling XOU188BR Oven

I did order the hinge socket kit, only to find that both ovens already have the new type sockets 🙁 I did swap them over, top to main oven in case the main oven ones were worn but it made no difference. At first I could not see how to get the front glass out so I could not try elongating the roller slots. It appeared to be glued on but later it did come free. By that time the customer was wanting her oven back to cook a meal so I had to put it all back together. It is certainly a heavy old beast to lift in and out without help.
It is the sort of job where I could do with having the oven in the workshop to experiment. I didn’t dare take both sides off at once since the sides are structural.

It needs a new door switch. This is quite a common problem on these machines. It is easy enough to change but if it’s under warranty you should get Comet back.

If you have paid £250 already the repair man can’t just turm his back on you. You should demand that he either does the repair or gives you a refund.

Yes, that was what I meant. You put the machine together and the element scrapes on the drum so you take the back off again and start trying to bend the brackets or loops of element to get some clearance. Usually it’s second time lucky but sometimes I’ve had to do the job 3 times to get quiet running.
You also have the job of lining up the back bearing plate with the panel each time……

Looking in online parts catalogues it looks like the tub splits down the middle. There is a bearing kit listed, Part No. 750224400. Perhaps later versions of this model do have welded tubs?

You could try a new interlock, they are not expensive.

That’s certainly cheap enough! Just shows you how much we should be paying for washing machine heaters. 😯

Are the new parts OE or pattern? Some of the pattern Hotpoint door bits don’t fit properly.

    Re: C.Card payments

In the old days when credit card payments were done on bits of paper that you signed there was a “shop limit” below which you didn’t need authorisation. Is this still the case or do all payments now have to be authorised?
