ParticipantRe: Servis M6500W: very noisy on spin
It is rare for these dampers to fail so early. Drum bearing failure is more likely. If you hold the outer drum from moving then check for up and down movement on the inner drum you should get very little movement unless the bearings have failed. Also slowly rotate the inner drum by hand and check for notchy movement or rumbling. Another telltale sign of drum bearing failure is rusty staining down the back of the outer drum.

This is an unfortunate one. You can call in an engineer but most will refuse to take on the job in these circumstances

It might be a lazy pump which works when it feels like it. If there was a coin obstructing the pump you should be able to see it when you drain it manually then remove the inspection cap. To renew the pump you may need to gain access by removing the cabinet front.

This is why I no longer touch dishwashers under about 10 years old, unless it’s something easy to get at like a soap dispenser.

Thanks for the reply. The last time I went to one of these faults I did find one of the hinge sockets was damaged so I did fit the socket kit, which is a modification. It made a slight difference but the door still didn’t shut properly. I will perhaps try your other check on the hinge carriages first.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint 30mm Seal (Again!)
In theory this new type of seal should mean less scrapped spiders as both the fixed and the rotating surfaces which form the seal are renewed just by changing the seal.

That’s good because that’s the way I did it. I’ve just come back from the workshop 🙂

ParticipantRe: opinion of integrated versus free standing.
My record was an hour and a half to renew a split washing machine fill hose, 2 minutes to change the hose, 1 hr 28mins to dismantle and re-assemble the kitchen. 😉

It’s the same with any kind of voluntary work, you are likely to get as much criticism as you get praise. The best advice for forum sites in general is “don’t feed the troll”. If you think someone is just there to wind you up it’s best just to ignore that thread/comment and move on to something else. You will still get a buzz when someone says your diagnosis was spot on and they have had a good outcome.

Are you registered for the trade parts of the site? You will find extensive info. on error codes in the Trade Technical Enquiries section.

ParticipantRe: Indesit WG1034TPG leak.
It’s a while since I did one but I have a feeling you have to loosen the top concrete weight to get enough clearance for the band to come off.
Less critical with the plastic drum machines but with the old heavy enamel backplate I used to re-assemble with the machine laid down on its front on an old cushion, otherwise gravity tended to prevent the backplace from seating properly.Phidom

How do you get a 6207 into a hole designed for a 6206?? 😕

ParticipantRe: What Tumble Drier?
I was referring to the reply by Lerch which I believe was tongue in cheek anyway. No, I don’t consider White Knight to be unreliable but I don’t know much about their current range (perhaps that in itself is a good recommendation for Crosslee because with Hotpoint I am seeing plenty of machines that have failed in the first 18 months or so).

New half tub, spider and spider screws would make the make the machine BER and I don’t have any secondhand large bearing half tubs.

I take it you have removed the clamp band and now can’t get the backplate out through the back of the machine? This is never easy but it does come out, complete with the inner drum. You have to turn the backplate to get one of the bracket sections to a top corner of the opening and pull it through then turn it again to get the other bracket sections out of the same corner of the back panel opening.
