Thanks for the replies. OK you MIGHT generate more work for yourself by telling customers to buy something you know will give trouble. More likely you will simply lose that customer. I suppose the main thing that has put me off White Knight was those big round elements, I find them a real pain to change. Perhaps they no longer make any models with those though?

Re: hotpoint WD860 coins in drum

If you slowly rotate the drum with a paddle removed and you can’t see coins lodged anywhere they could be caught down the front of the drum. You may be able to get access by removing the cabinet front and loosening the top hose from the soap dispenser to the tub. Again you would slowly rotate the drum and see if they appear through the hose orifice.

Yes, there is a sort of filter cage in the hose from the bottom of the drum to the pump. If coins get into there they may prevent movement of the anti-backfill valve. This is a plastic ball similar to a table tennis ball. If you remove the lower back panel you can remove this hose which is held on with a Jubilee clip. Remove the ball and filter cage and clean out.

Now, I just need to find a scrapped machine with a split tub and a dead motor or controller …. 😉

    All the best ..

I think you are knocking on an open door with most of what you say but this seems like a sound plan.

I know, I’ve had loads of bother with them. They only have to be sitting on an uneven patch of floor and they warp out of shape enough for the drum to scrape against the back panel 🙁

It is always worth checking if the concrete blocks have come loose. There are two, one on the top of the outer drum and one mounted on the bottom front face of the outer drum. Each is held on with 3 big self tapping type bolts.

Since they started using Royal Mail I often do get stuff next day. With DHL et al it was typically 3 to 4 days.

It could be the motor brushes. To get at these you really need to remove the back half of the cabinet then remove the motor.

    Power off first, please.

A colleague was once asked to supply a new part for a Hotpoint Tumble Dryer and brought in the old one to the shop to make sure they got the right thing. What they brought in was a ring of compacted fluff which builds up round the actual felt seal 😆

O/T but my last house had a fireplace in the bedroom and still had the old lead gas pipe and tap for one of those same torches or p0kers, used to light the fire. The same fireplace had a hook up in the chimney for some kind of chain/winch system used for cooking pots.

Sometimes the heater blows and the stats are OK so I tend to fit just the stats and charge roughly the cost price of the heater assembly. I then have a spare heater for next time I need one.

    Re: pat test help

The course is actually a bit of a joke but I don’t know if anyone would let you take the exam without doing the course. There are a couple of practical bits where you do a formal visual inspection and a PAT test then its a multiple choice exam done at a PC with 30 questions. You are allowed to consult the Code of Practice in the exam 😆

Part number from the BSH website is 298539. They seem to have replaced the Quickfinder site with something called eShop and made it harder to use 😕
