    Re: Recommended Listening

Got a new Cd player in the van £55 from e-buyer.Plays cd,mp3 , it has a usb port and a slot for SDcards.I’m using the SD cards as theyre now as cheap as chips- £15 for 1gb from e-buyer(Ive got one of their mp3 players that takes SD cards so Ive already got a few cards).

Loaded them up with Led Zep,Santana,Jimi,Neil Young,Eric Clapton ,played them loud at Vol48(I dont know how many numbers there are -I darent try).

Its made by (might be badged) Eltax, they sell their speakers at Richer Sounds and theyre OK for the price.Detachable front (comes off easily).

I dont know if you could plug an I-pod into the usb port (it might be a problem if all the tracks are in AAC format).

    My favourite:
Lady said “It always happens in threes, my TV broke and the Tv man has just fixed it ,now the washers broke and last week my husband died.”
I wondered if those were her priorities.

Lights are on m/c wont start.Tried the start switch thats OK.Brown wires going everywhere and its in a tight spot I could only get at it by turning it on its side as its stacked on top of a washer.I could test the circuit from the timer(hopefully).Strip down and reassembly-then order the part and then repeat is going to be a real pain in this case.Sorry but I’ve no Fax machine.

Re: THE THINGS CUSTOMERS SAY ?

Said to me yesterday”Do I have to pay the full call out as its only one of the smaller dishwashers”.

Old ones “It hasnt worked properly since you last repaired it”(3 years ago).
or”I’ve only used it three times since you were last here”(2 years-needs new carbs).
They must think thats grass growing behind my ears!

A little bird told me that Crosslee are testing some “Turkish” washing machines with the control modules at the top ‘like the Hotpoint WMAs’.Said they were OK except that the feet broke so theyve sent for a second batch.Theyve run a washing m/c under the White Knight badge before-some Spanish machines which were Ok,some early Merlonis (Servis type) with the small modules which went quickly and some later ones with the big modules which no one really wanted (trade that is) See if they have success with these.

Iadom is right I still had 3 miles to go, the border just runs behind the Windy Hill mast(which is in Lancs).Anyway Im one of those brave Lancastrians living in Yorkshire– sometimes feel like a missionary.

Engine/gearbox with approx 30k on it £650+(gulp) plus labour(gulp). Some loin girding and belt tightening to be done–bang goes the wifes birthday present!

Twas the module, fitted and working hunkydory, customer happy.Odd machines these, older type clockwork timer and new type digital module.Anyhow after 28 years in the trade you still get caught out by a so called simple fault should have remembered the golden rule -never presume. Thanks to EMW( the timer is winging its way back as we speak)and thanks boys for the advice.

Theres about 20 connections on the module, cant all be for the motor circuit. Just wondered if anybody had had the no advance problem before, as its bank holiday I cant order any parts until tuesday and the customers already muttering about new machines.( No patience these days)I still suspect the module as there is no motor action(motor ok) but there is no timer action either.

    Re: TMS

Rumour I heard today was that they wanted £2M for the business but that the suppliers were trying to get their parts because they hadnt been paid for. Also I heard that they had been selling new appliances at less than cost the usual desperate things companies do when theyre in trouble.I cant see them surviving because they dont have many assets as their premises were leased.
Prices were always pretty good and they had a good range.
Shame really for the staff, always had good service and banter from them (Leeds) as long as you didnt try and return anything faulty.

Bacup its in the Bermuda Triangle isnt it. I go as far as the Todmorden/Bacup border-the maggot farm. Never been tempted to descend into Bacup its deepest Lancashire down there and dragons live there dont they? (above lady sounds like one).

    Re: Creda Menu 350 cooker

Thats the problem no model no. in the book either. These are awkward little devils to get at the simmerstats, half an hour to get at the simmerstat to see if it has a number on it, half an hour to put it back together so they can cook.Order part, half an hour etc.-time is mounting up. 3 hours plus 3 calls, how can you charge approx £100 for a simple switch on a cheap tinny cooker? Number 350 is correct both in the book and on the cooker.Simmerstat has the wider shaft.

Pocket-patters ,youve just unblocked the pump and presented them with the bill. They pat their pockets and say they have no cash or their wife/husband has the chequebook, no point in leaving a bill as they wont pay it, so you have to call back. The bad part about this is youve got to get the money or else they tell their friends how to get a free repair.

Thanks boys for the advice, the customer decided on a new m/c.The hole was too large for epoxy (3 finger dilation).Had an even bigger one yesterday on an Indesit could get your fist in it. Oh for the old days when we used to braize pennies onto the steel tanks.

    Re: Samsung Q1636S w/m

It seems a bit of a hit and miss affair i.e.fit a motor if it spins OK if not fit a new board. As the parts are expensive (Power board £107,motor probably £100 plus and 10 days delivery) there cant be any money in the job because you are going to be left with one expensive part. This aint engineering this is guesswork! One of the reasons I started this thread was to try and flush out some information about these new motors and how they can get the high speeds out of them and how the tacho works-why a third wire? We’re going to come across more of them-they look as if theyre as cheap to produce as brush motors and they are fitted in the new Hotpoints. Any info please will be appreciated.

I’ve got an original type pressure chamber for the back and I’ll block the arm on the sump hose. Thanks boys for the info.
