After finding the fault with a Megger (Fault on supply cable) I asked where their Megger was, they don’t have one & it turns out that between the 4 engineers in the firm there isn’t 1 insulation tester, when I asked about safety testing on completion they said they just check Earth continuity & had no clue that it was a statutory requirement for a repair engineer to carry out Earth Continuity & Insulation tests on Completion of a repair & they are both convinced that the test equipment they use is perfectly adequate for the job.
Have the rules on safety testing been changed or scrapped or maybe I was just dreaming them. 😕

That is VERY scarey ! Knowing theres people out there working like this !!!

    Re: Cowboys

I had a very similar problem with a cooker where a sparks had tried to repair a solid hotplate, he replaced the hotplate ok but had somehow got all the wires mixed up on the front panel to ALL of the regulators – So when the lady turned the cooker on, only that hotplate worked & everything else including the grill was dead !!! He charged her £80 for the privelege too ! Cheeky tw*t ! Obviously after the lady found out that the cooker wasn’t working properly I got a phone call to come round & check it out – Initially I thought it was just the mains connector on the back that had melted so replaced that & thats when I went to check the wiring – what a mess !!! 👿
One hour later all the hotplates worked & the grill also ! 😛
The lady kept me with a supply of tea & cake, she also paid me a nicely too ! She’s since called me for advice & repair of her other appliances.
Thanks to bodgers like that, means theres more customers for us – even if they do create a mess !

Re: Just starting out on my own…Help needed !

Firstly, Thank you all for you’re valued input.
    I didn’t expect such a fantastic response ! 😛
I’ve got my cards printed up by Vistaprint & have used them a while now thanks for that anyhoo !
Unfortunately I can’t make Coventry even though I would love to, as I have no major financial backing I am having to work on a building site just to make ends meet & pay the bills so can’t afford to take the day off 🙁 – I do the appliance repairs in the early eves & weekends at the moment but long to have a steady stream of customers/repairs.
I’ve got an ad on Yell.com & have already had some reponse but no call outs yet (…but they are pending ! Flood damage not covered by manufacturer !)
Now to the mine field of Public Liability Insurance who’s got the best cover & has good value for money?
I’ve had a few quotes from the usual AXA, Norwich Union etc…etc… but all in the 400 -500 range – This seems alot !?

Thanks again for your help 😉

or is there a more straightforward method?

OK, to remove the motor first you must remove the door from its hinges, front, top and side panels off. Disconnect tub fixings, salt container cap and locking screw, lift away top spray arm mounting. Disconnect the fill matix and lay it clear of tub. Remove the tub fixing screws (4) front and rear. Then carefully lift the whole tub off and away!

Then you can access the motor correctly to effect a repair. The same procedure applies to accessing the instantaneous water heater. 😉

Several ‘short-cut bodge’ type methods have been mentioned in the past throughout the many UKW tech pages on the subject of Bosch/Neff/ Siemens dishwashers, but the method I advise is the only correct procedure. 8)

…and stops yu getting water into pressure system bellows !!!

timdowning wrote:I have seen this loads of times with this type/model. The fact that the machine does eventually pump out is fine. I assume the original fault was no drainage at all? I have never fitted a like for like pump on this model, i only change the pump end with a universal Askoll. I have never worked out why it ‘hangs’ on letting the water out but it does.

Did you fit a complete genuine pump?

No changed it for universal askoll just as you do !
The plumbing – Yes it does go into a spigot but the pipes under the sink are all clear too – Once disconnected it still hangs then pumps out…

Wilf – I can’t wait to find out what you do…
    …I wait in anticipation

Thanks for the posts all 😉
