Re: WMA 31 bearings and spider

I used a bigger lump hammer and got it all together so thanks Martin and Jim.
Incidentally could I have got away with the old spider with just a cleanup of the shaft in most cases?
Jim, what make drill bits do you use as I got through five Bosch titanium coated bits that went dull very quickly?

Re: WMA 31 bearings and spider

    Thanks Jim,
The main worry was the seal housing not going flush.
Can’t get the bearing to move in anymore so might try anyway. Or get a bigger lump hammer 😉

Re: WMA 31 bearings and spider

    Just continued playing with this.
If I clean up the spider shaft it seems the seal moves in it’s metal housing so I may not have to change the spider after all.
    Am I right?
All that remains is, is it the right seal?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks Martin,
My labour is £40 no VAT and I understand now the distance involved but maybe I ought to increase the charge. I’ll post in the correct thread.

Martin and Apple, is that really what you charge just for fitting. I would supply and fit for around £58. I know we are not so wealthy down here and anything with Berkshire in the address requires a premium but is this the reason I’m not driving a Range Rover?

    Re: premier electrics…

Lots of posts on this lot.
I’ve seen this scam in action on a dishwasher and sold her a Indesit at £100 over Littlewoods price but as he”had one on the van” and she had to fork out the diagnosis fee she agreed although I pointed out the price and that it wasn’t the timer but a broken wire in the door.
I was in the house for the washer under g/tee so could have done the job before he got there 😥
As Alex says…”they are in a league of their own” and have been in court a few times over their practices.

I left them to try it and it started spinning ok but only with a load so will remain a mystery. Thanks for the input.

Yep, just using the description from Connect.
What I don’t get is how it was working ok before this coupling disintegrated and now it will wash but not spin.
I’m looking for an idea to work from as a possible cause.

Re: WHIRLPOOL 3RLEQ8000KQ2 Yankee top loader

    Update,
A new clutch coupling fitted and the washing is ok but it won’t spin. Tried leaving it through a programme, took it apart again but no joy. I tipped it back and looked at the coupling and it was spinning well but the drum wasn’t.
    Thanks

A bit optimistic by all accounts Mac. Your coffers may be swelled sooner than that 😉

Maybe you should tell them to keep the Hotpoint “just in case” 😀

    A blast from the past

    Hi,
an existing customer with a Hitachi FW101B (Servis Quartz). Power card dead so went into my loft and found a few. Put one on and fine for 10 seconds then no pump. Took it off and found two dry joints after a lot of continuity testing and resoldered them, yes a repair rather than replace, whatever next. All working fine. I never thought they would come in handy after 21 years but one did. I charged her £55 for the lot as I reckoned rather than BER it I have kept and old classic going for a bit and got shot of a part I never thought I would.
I feel happy to have done that but also a bit of trace and repair. Takes me back to 1982 when I started with Servis after 10 years driving a London bus.

Re: WHIRLPOOL 3RLEQ8000KQ2 Yankee top loader

Well I’ve ordered the clutch and go hoping for a good result. The pump didn’t work but maybe, not being familiar with this machine, I didn’t have the timer in the right place.
    Will keep you posted.
    Thanks to all.
