    Re: A “Call out” charge

I agree with every word. I went from a free estimate to £15 eastimate and then to £20. Very few do not accept it. I also charged £28 + parts and soon found out it was costing me money to work so upped it to £37.50 and no problems. It will shortly be increased to £40 + parts. Genuine customers are happy as they get a good speedy service, a guarantee and they always come back so don’t undersell yourselves and charge what you are worth. You will get away from the bargain seekers and get a reliable source of work that puts money in the bank.
I don’t work in an affluent area but customers are prepared to pay for quality.

I did tell her last time if she thought washing was dry to put it on cool down before taking washing out and switching off and I think she has done that. What cycling stat could I fit?

    To Kevin.
If you are” too busy repairing good stuff ” it can’t be all that good.
I find Hotpoint/Creda pretty good and value for money but then I do have a history of working for Servis/Homecare/Servis UK for 20 odd years so it may have something to do with it.
Joking asppart I think Hotpoint ain’t that bad and Quite resonable to sell to my customers.

    Re: Smelly Washers

Have to disagree Ken. Liquid sticks to the top of the outer tub on first spin and then goes off and smells. The low water levels nowadays has made it worse. Can find many ladies down here who will say the soda works.

    Re: Smelly Washers

Problem is customer using liquid ( goes back to the early eighties).
Get customer to use half packet of soda crystals, about 55pence, in the drum on a boil wash and again 2-3 weeks later. Also get her to check filter as can cause scale to loosen. I guarantee it works but get them to use powder. It is geat for whites, tea towels and cleaning greasy overalls.

    Re: Seme delivery times

Yes, you are right. Things have got worse but I havn’t had to wait as long as you and if you have a multiple order on one part, if it says in stock it may only mean one of those parts.I ordered 8 Zanussi basket wheels and got three and waited 10 days for the other 5. I think I will go local now with the postage charge and declining delivery. Also their prices are creeping up so many parts are not such a bargain.

Re: Servis M785 (refrig’) drain problems

    Hi,
Servis uk Fridges often have the insulation blocking the drain hole…a screwdriver fixes it.
On the same sort of theme. Their frost free f/freezers have a little rubber tube, about 1″ long above the compressor tray and this sticks together and stops the thing draining and ice inside the freezer. I rub it between fingers to remove the stickyness and give a dit of a tube effect. Havn’t been back to one since.
