Re: Whirlpool to do a recall on Hotpoint dryers

I was at a house yesterday doing some other work when the customer asked me to check their Hpt condenser dryer. Fear from last weeks watchdog programme. They said it had been modified buy WP and she just wanted it checked and advise accordingly.

It has a new back with a green sticker. I took the heater off and it was very clean but then again the poor lady is a but paranoid. She does all the right things etc.

However, I cannot see a rivet. Are they all supposed to have a rivet as part of the modification?

Sorry, I broke the model number rule and didn’t get it. 😳

    Dave,

I thought it a bit strange but the lady is insistant it’s correct. You are correct as ever, there appears to be no electrical connection to the door lock. I can see this being a two trip job. Perhaps I could ride out on my brand new Triumph but you can’t carry too many tools though..still it’s good fun. Thanks as ever

All the contacts worn down to paper thin and burnt through. The motor is good.

Ref the Spare Group UK. I have had dealings with them before. I thought I’d check for reviews and the very first review on Trusted Pilot said “Don’t belive the “In Stock” mesage on their website.

Twenty minutes late, they were honest and admitted they didn’t have one. Oh we’ll have to take it off our website. It seems to be a bit of pattern. Be weary, they have several other websites but only one company with a very small warehouse by all accounts.

    Thanks anyway Dave.

    Thanks Iadom,

That’s a crying shame. The rest of the appliance is in great condition. With a new timer it would have out lasted me. Thanks

    Re: LEC Fridge freezer TF5517W

After speaking to Glen Dimplex it’s not good news. The defrost heater is not available on it’s own. It only comes as part of the evaporator. A quick £262.48 – er no thanks.
Okay, we’ll send an engeinner to come and do it £145.00..

Aparently it’s integral to the evaporator but it looks like any other heater that. I appreciate some you can only change with an evaporator change.
So the customer is now going to be £200 (including my fee) to fix a 3-4 yo fridge freezer that costs less than £300.00 new… and count to 10…breath….. You can’t help some people.

    Re: Fault with fridge freezer

Thanks. Sorry I did know exactly what it was. I just wanted a few people to say exactly what you said.

It had a new stat fitted two weeks ago, six months before that as well. Another one a year ago and so on and on. In fact six, yes six new stats in the last 2-3 years. A large warranty insurance group keeps sending engineers who replace the stat each time. The lady asked why it’s not working? The last engineers answer: We get cheap parts to fit and they don’t work very well.

I was asked to have a look whilst I was PAT testing there for the landlord.

Absolutely shocking really. The tenant has bought her own fridge/freezer because everything freezes in the fridge.

For information it’s a Candy CFBC 3150 A. I replaced one just a few weeks back not far from this one…..
