    Re: Smeg WDI 12C

I had this on a WI12 washing machine recently; don’t know if it’s the same door interlock. I took the lock off, operated it by hand and the machine worked. I put it back and it still worked, so I never found out what was wrong. I’m expecting a call back but it hasn’t come yet!

Exactly. I’ve got my first belt change on a VTD00 to do tomorrow. Not looking forward to it after having read all the postings about them!

No, I put them into the search facility on the site, not Google, and nothing came up.

Servis were the first to do away with Jockey pulleys and use a shorter belt[as far as I know] over 20 years ago on the slimline dryer and that worked ok. It was no trouble to fit, and the tension wasn’t as much as on these Hotpoints. If I remember correctly you could adjust the tension with a sliding motor fixing. I’ve always wondered why the mfrs persevered with jockey pulleys after that, as Servis showed there wasn’t any need for them. They’re a part prone to failure anyway and as penguin said cost money to fit originally .It’s just Hotpoint that haven’t got the design right.

Well blow me. I put ‘dyson and qualtex and court and case’ into search and what came up? Nothing 😯

Yes; nice to meet you too Ron, and thanks, Ken and co. for organising the meeting once again; I thoroughly enjoyed it as I’m sure did everyone else. Missed the free lunch though 🙁 .
Thanks also John for all the hard work you’ve done on WEEE :lesson: that will no doubt benefit us all in the coming months.

I don’t understand why this would be wired in series with the cooling fan if it’s an over-temperature cut-out. Surely a thermostat wired that way would be a normally open one that cuts in as the oven heats up to bring the cooling fan in?

    Re: Servis Fridge Freezer M7554-1FF

Not familiar with this particular model. It’s possibly the flap valve faulty but more likely to be a freezer evaporator de-frosting problem. If the evaporator is blocked up with ice the fan can’t circulate the cold air up into the fridge. That could be caused by a number of things: de-frost heater, toc, termination thermostat/thermistor, timer/pcb. Needs diagnosing properly.

    Very useful clips

Just looked those up on Connections. At £3.10 a clip they jolly well should be useful 😯 . I usually open up the old clips with a flat screwdriver and re-crimp them with pincers. Works nearly every time unless the ratchet comes apart. Think i may get one or two of the £3.10 ones though just in case….

That’ll check for open or short circuited capacitor but it won’t tell you if the capacitance value has dropped far enough over time to prevent the motor starting. You really need a multimeter with capacitance ranges up to 200uF.

It would be worth taking the flexible drive between the motor and gearbox, 481932528035 [about £9] as the plastic arms break, although this usually results in no agitation either. Check the start capacitor first though as that’s easier to do.

These machines are quite easy to work on once you know how to get into them. I’ll pm you my mobile no. in case you want a hand while you’re on site.

For anybody who’s interested an identical main oven thermostat to the original is available, it’s Diamond H no. 46TH4/F8. Harrison Distribution has it in stock.

    Thanks Dave,

It’s an unusual one; 46TH5/F8. I’ll try Harrison Distribution on Monday.
