You can test how much power the compressor is drawing but you need a clamp meter.

I would not worry about the. Freezer as it is far cheaper to run the old freezer than buying a new one.

Plus if a freezer goes wrong you can loose a lot of food and cost more.

As the freezer is 1980 it is most likely on R12 refrigerant and compressors use more power but rarely give a problem.

You can also purchase monitors now to check how much power you are using, some electricity suppliers fit them but from the ones I have seen they do not seem that accurate.

If the Compressor is not hot and running all the time it will not be the freezer using more electricity.

Also you need to make sure you defrost the freezer regularly to make it run efficiently .

Stick with the old freezer a new one is unlikely to last 8 years .

And £600 buys a lot of electricity for a freezer.

    Re: Fridge cooling problem

At the back is a panel at the bottom covering the compressor if you remove this then you can check to see if the fan is working when the compressor is running.

If the condenser has been blocked the fan can overheat and seize.

If the fan is seized then you need to replace it as the compressor will overheat and may seize.

They seek him here, they seek him there.
    Those WTA seek him everywhere.

This model gets very few problems and if they do it is normally the main PCB.

You should be ok now as I have never been back to one after a PCB has been replaced.

Yes it will be the main PCB faulty.

    Re: Miele KFN12923SD

This is the air sensor in the fridge for the temperature display.

The evaporator sensor will be foamed in and the PCB is fitted at the back near the compressor.

Your will have to order the evaporator sensor mod kit for this model not just a normal sensor Kit.

This mod is available from Miele and it comes with full instructions.

    Re: Miele KFN12923SD

On your model how many sensors are in the Fridge.

1 or 2 ? Did you replace an air temperature sensor or evaporator sensor.

The sensor you should change is the sensor on the rear panel in the fridge.

If you changed the sensor near the light then you have replaced the wrong sensor.

If you only have one sensor in the fridge then the other is foamed in and you will need the sensor and mod kit from Miele to replace it.

It comes with full instructions but is more difficult to replace as you have to identify the sensor connections to the PCB

The fault you have is the fridge evaporator sensor and this is fitted to the rear panel inside the fridge.

I think yours is the foamed in type sensor and you need the mod kit to fit the sensor to the rear panel

Perhaps you can invite him to give a talk on National Appliance Care at the next WTA Meeting.

Then we can ask Tonto who is that masked Man. 😀

You do not have to be a member to come along to the meetings.

Come to the Martch 2014 meeting then you will be able to make your own mind up if it is worth becoming a member.

When you see the work Ken, Lawrence , Steven, Brian, etc put in and all in there own time.

You will also have the chance to meet many contacts as well, this can lead to more work and on your own terms.

I am sure the benefits will become clear and you will gain more than the £70 subs and have a good time as well.

Most likely an oven not a fridge freezer fault. 😀
