If I remember correctly when the water container is full & activates the float switch, it turns off the pump & heater and activates the empty container indicator. I think it does cause the timer to advance to the end, but it’s a long time isnce i’ve done 1 of these. Also don’t forget to thoroughly clean out the condenser at the base of the machine as well. Be careful of the lovely sharp edges though, they bite.
Up until Nov 2005 Elth thermistors were fitted, after that they were changed to TOD. They’re not interchangeable. TOD used from serial number: 51130.0001 & applies to front and rear thermistors.Hope that helps: Andy

Hi: At this point it might be worth thinking of getting a good independent local repairer to look at it & give you a repair estimate.
You could try a look at the UKWG repairs@ feature to see if we list a repairer in your area.Specialist01269

Also possibly damaged wiring harness or Motor connector.

Wiring fault possibly or usual Hotpoint rubbish electronics.

Hi: From the fault description you’ve given, I would buy the replacement sensor first & fit it. No point spending on an Element now as you may well not need to replace it, if you have a Multimeter you can check the Element for continuity to prove the point.
PLEASE REMEMBER POWER OFF & PLUG OUT, before opening things up.

If it’s takeing out the Tacho coil then something must be drawing current through the coil, what happened with the Earth leak on the Motor or was that due to the coil?

Hi Tom: Did you actually check any of the components on the PCB? what does the resistor feed? before replacing the resistor I would be thoroughly checking to see what fried it. Is the resistor actually open circuit?, if a resistor is running close to it’s limits they can often look overheated but still be ok.

That’s possible, a sharp tap on top of the valve with the handle of a screwdriver may release it long enough to prove your point.

Before replacing anything try re-seating the electrical connectors first. Just moving your machine from 1 point to another & back would’nt normally cause the inlet valve to seize.

ParticipantRe: zanussi zdt6244 resistor
Hi Tom: Before you find out about the resistor, you really need to look for what caused it to burn out. Unless it was underated from manufacture (Unlikely) there has to be a cause & just replacing the resistor is unlikely to cure it.

Not quite as good as Microwave Billy & at least you got a safety warning first.

Hi: I just re-read your original post, you should not be doing live testing on an appliance. However as you say you have 240v to the fan terminals then the fan should run, if you do have 240v to the fan terminals as you said then the next thing to do would be to carry out a continuity test across the fan motor coil.

Like the way he suppressed the burps mid sentence.
Obviously takes the same pride in his appearance as he does in his work :rolls:I would have paid to see that idiot getting a belt from a Microwave, what a Moron.
I totallyagree with you mate, i’ve got no time for cheap test gear or leads. It’s just not worth the risk but I fear Martin is right, there may still be many in this trade who don’t even have the basic test equipment. I know for a fact that about 12 miles from me there’s 1 who relies on a Neon tester, a test lamp & a continuity tester for testing appliances.

Nice 1 Martin, think that should be a lesson in how not to do things. God the bloke is a complete mess, imagine him turning up to fix your appliances 😆 Now don’t forget next time you fix a Microwave you have to leave it 15 Minutes for the cap to discharge 🙁 Wonder what he does with an oven where the bleed resistor is o/c. Don’t know about you but I think i’ll carry on doing it the way I was taught, getting :zap: by a Mcirowave I can do without.
Did you look at the testing Microwave diodes bit? another 1 good for a laugh. 😆
