Re: Whirlpool AKP951 double oven: Grill turning itself off

Either the cooling fan,(not the one that circulates the heat)which sits at the rear and can only be acessed by removing oven from cupboard has failed or the wee thermostat that controls it has failed.
It normally operates when the oven gets to 45c and blows cool air around the casing,if it doesn’t work and starts getting too hotaround the casing there is a safety cut out which will cut off the power and doesn’t come back on until it’s cooled down, more likely to occur on grill than oven.
    UNPLUG first before any actions.

Re: Indesit Fridge Freezer Fault – diagnosis anybody?

If after it hums there is an audible click then it will be the overload cutting power to the compressor. Why is the question, either relay or compressor.
The relay /ptc device may be the fault but it’s not possible to be definitive, however as the cost of a replacement is relatively cheap ie £20 ish it’s worth a try.

Re: Indesit Fridge Freezer Fault – diagnosis anybody?

    There’s been an overload in every compressor I’ve handled,thats 5 or 6 a week for 35 years 😯
Otherwise when relays fail the internal windings will FRYthey also protect against other starting issues.
No bye pass to relay possible, it and the motor windings work together.
If it goes to land fill it certainly won’t be the youngest there, shame,we all deplore the fragile life that seems to be built into most white goods, sadly those who can least afford to replace stuff often are the ones suffering most.

Re: Indesit Fridge Freezer Fault – diagnosis anybody?

    Obviously to do with compressor:
could be a mechanical or electrical fault inside the compressor which is causing an overload device inside the compressor to cut the motor out.
Could be the relay/start device although it doesn’t sound like it,possibley a refrigerant leak coulds have caused the motor to run hot and then do damage internally.
leaving the door open overnight wouldn’t cause the fault as thats the same as having it on fast freeze which is simply running 24 hours so the compressor should be capable of that.
Looks like you have an expensive fault either way, compressor fitted from £180 ish.

`”the fan comes on with the compressor”the answer is in there somewhere :)If in doubt stick a photo up so we can see if the fan is positioned correctly.

Re: Hotpoint FFA70 Freezing in fridge

Think this one has the diverter valve down near compressor so may be allowing refigerant up to fridge all the time..
It is normally closed, remove solenoid and use an old microwave magnet to check if valve will respond to magnetic field ie opening and closing. Can’t remember the way the stat is wired but seem to remember it’s not as normal so special stat for this one me thinks !!

Re: Hotpoint FF72P – what does fault code mean?

E8 is a short circuit in evaporator thermistor which helps control defrost, part no 2901683 shouldn’t be very expensive and is a simple plug in and clip on device after removing inside back panel of freezer.
Don’t forget to SWITCH OFF FIRST.

    UNPLUG FIRST PLEASE!
Hi,I presume you are describing the condenser cooling fan(condenser is a radiator looking device)at the rear which cools the liquid refigerant in the tubing of the condenser,if this isn’t running the compressor will become exsessively hot and refrigeration will be poor or non exsistant.Condenser MUST be clean and dust free too.The fan usually comes on with the compressor, often connected to the compressor terminals, worth checking out as previous interference may have left something adrift.

Have seen this probably twice in 40 years but not on miele, usually a failure in the sieve part of the resin container which prevents resin escaping.

Re: Serivs fridge freezer not working after house move

If the compressor runs for a split second and then cuts out it will be the internal overload device cuting off the supply in the compressor. It could be the relay start device which sits on the side of the motor in a plastic box, maybe worth trying a new one.
Something inside the compressor may have got jarred or been weak already and the moving it was the final straw.
Hermetically sealed so you can’t access to do any thing it’s a compressor change which starts at b £170 ish.
    Always switch off before investigating.

I use a britool 12″ socket extension ground to give an edge to latch onto outer bearing.Softerv metal doesn’t transfer enough enertia, removal tools are pretty naff too.

If I had a decent voice I’d be out solo,it’s OK for a couple late on in the evening.
Trouble is with making from scratch there is easily 40 hours work in making one so they have to be top notch to sell at a viable price.Have spent quite a bit of time making jigs for consistent side bending etc.
Currently working on another, hoping to up the finish quality by the time I’ve made 4 or 5.

    Re: How much is enough?

My old boss at Lux in the earlt seventies always told me I was too customer conscious,40 years later I still have an issue with this but not so bad now, battle hardened perhaps.
He also said that if a cusomer ever says “that was cheap” consider that one a missed opportunity, easy in hindsight but it’s difficult to stick to a mark up across the board.Ok on new goods possibly but appliance spares differentiate too much in price, and yes some do subsidise others but thats true of life in general.
If in doubt about a spare part price have a look on espares, partmaster and on this site and strike a balance.
You obviously aren’t going to be too avaricious if you are already considering business and customers in this way,you will harden off a bit in time and as for integrity if you have it, it will always be there, sometimes more prominantly than others.
    You can’t please everyone 🙂
