    Re: Dealing With “Call Backs”

A subject which is thorny at the best of times !

Personally I find that plenty of tack is required, for example say I had a call where the customer reported a fault of No Drain on a Washer, At the time of the call it was necessary to fit a drain pump, Job Done, now fast forward to three weeks time customer calls claiming callback status ( which inveriably they do ! ) that the machine wont pump out the water again !

I always make it clear that the previous job would be under guarantee in so much that if it is the pump that is responsible for this similar breakdown then warranty will apply, if however the fault is not related to the part fitted then the job will be chargeable. Upon inspecting the machine it turns out they have now washed a bathmatt and its disintergrated blocking the sump, hence no pump out.

That for me now becomes chargable as it is not the pumps fault or mine !
Now this is where the tack comes in, if its a regular customer I may consider the bigger picture it all depends on the customer, how you work and how you put it over.

I always try to be fair to both myself and my customer and weigh the options, some customers will have you round every month to clear filters and pumps all at your cost if you let them. For me a call back is specified where a part I have fitted has become defective, or sometimes when a fault is elussive or intermittant on the first call.

Re: Hotpoint WM Series & FHP Motors

Funny enough it was a HP Engineer that first told me that he and all the other HP guys used this procedure, sure changing the motor plug is the correct way but the two methods = the same outcome do they not ?
    Thanks for the refresher

    Re: Van Stocks

Again I was gonna ask about some stock, the thing is that like many I was supplied with a basic stock for the CI555WH, Door Seal Carbons, Pump and these items are kept seperate from any other stock and only taken out when I get a ISE service call.

Things were bound to become a little more complicated once further models were introduced along with manufacturer changes etc.

My view of the current situation is that at the outset we were promised spares to effect warranty repairs and I am sure that the offer is still on the table. From what has been said spares are available but now we may have to pay for them ? is this correct ?

The whole ethos of stocking ISE for me was three fold, 1 to offer my customers something that I belived in. 2. To be able to offer quick service in the event of any problems along the way. 3 To enhance my own business by having satisfied customers using points 1 & 2.

Therefore we could do with Motors for the ISE 2, 5Mk1 & Mk2, Door Locks, Carbons, Pumps, Door Seals, this at least allows us to react to our customers needs and more importantly shows that ISE is really different to the rest out there.

I am sure there is plenty of discussion to be had on this subject and I will discuss this with John on his next visit for Tea & Buns !!

Thanks Guys, I did as a matter of course check the wiring loom both at the motor plug and the underside of the cabinet for chaffing as that is common especially on the WD series. Nothing chaffed I am going back to take the front plate off and drum out as I have had the sump off already.

Had a few of these with splits in the spray arm normally near the tip of the arm. Result is no rotation, worth a check

It’s such a pity that the thread has been dragged down to stereo typing insults.
There are some extremely bad independants out there, doesn’t make them all bad does it? So why apply it to BG or anyone else?
I work for British Gas, I take pride in my work and take great care of peoples property.

Brian My sincerest apologies if my remarks caused you any offence, those remarks were tongue in cheek. However when I sited the parts issue that was based on real fact as a neighbour nearby has a BG contract and reckons its a complete watse of money, she has waited on two occassions for engineers to return weeks apart with what should be common place parts only to find that the parts still did not correct her problems. I am sure that you as an indivdual take pride in your work and that you yourself have no control of issues of parts being supplied.
Domestic Service Engineers normally have a great sense of humour, ( it seems to be a pre requiste of the job ) sorry if you cold not see the funny side.

    Peace.

    Re: best toolboxes?

I use the CK technicians toolbag, well thought out and you can keep all your common tools in it, the heavy tools like hammers and the like I keep on the van and get them in only when I need to hit a customer ! Seriously not a lot of point in carrying heavy hammers etc when for most jobs they are not required.

The other thing with a soft type bag is that they are lighter and do not take lumps out of customers doors and frames when passing through. Still if you work for British Gas I would expect a lump out of the door frame from some heavy metal type box and then wait six weeks for the engineer to return with the part !

Re: Gas instalation issue (for any CORGI Guys out there)

My experience for landlords and also my mates who is a corgi regesitered Gas Installer is that they are always trying to cut corners, for instance we had a guy in this morning who was questioning why he needed to have a corgi engineer to repair a gas hob in one of his properties, turns out his comes from across the channel where anyone with a spanner can work on gas. His opinion was that this Corgi lark is a rip off and waste of time designed to make money out of people ! Ha I said what would happen if some handyman that you employed did attempt repairs on your rented properties and the result was a Gas Explosion servere enough to kill people ? and destroy your properties, would you then be thinking that ah well he was only a odd job man and as he was not trained let alone insured you will be the one in court along with him ?

Mon We he was gone !
