I don’t think this article does the repair industry any favours. Doesn’t it just reinforce people’s throw away mentality?

The article fails to mention that a large majority of faults can still be repaired cost effectively. I still repair at least 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of machines I look at, with an average repair cost of well under £100.

At least you got the same story, but frustrating when you see Connect part ref 5031687977182 at 40{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the price. It looks just like the one on Q1457, but Connect won’t commit to saying whether it will fit that model.

I guess this is the issue they are worried about:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7F5tIJXCe14

It seems the recall applies to freestanding and semi-integrated dishwashers only from FD7901 to FD8504 with this module type.

Have they taken any steps to inform the independent repair sector?

Do Askoll type dishwasher wash pumps deserve a mention here. The cheap plastic wash pumps fitted in most Whirlpool dishwasher produced in the last 8 years or so. In my experience, the most common failure on Whirlpool dishwashers and costing £120 in replacement parts to put right (pump and fixings kit). At least Whirlpool’s replacement wash pump for most of these dishwashers is a good quality conventional wash pump, to replace the poor quality factory item.

Until recently, this was the only dishwasher wash pump I kept in van stock. But around 2 years ago the new generation of Hotpoint and Indesit dishwashers adopted this cheap pump type, but this time with no upgrade available for repair, the £80 replacement pump being of identical poor quality.

    Re: Feel the weight

Manufacturer’s have been claiming to adapt the program to the load for years. The trade retail press is full of claims from all manufacturer’s eg “Sophisticated sensors ensure the machine doesn’t use a drop more water than needed for each wash.”

I’ve noticed many higher spec machines have flow meters on the inlet as well as pressure sensors, which presumably allows the machine to calculate how much water has been soaked up by the washing. Combine this with motor load and turbidity sensors, and there is already quite a lot of information to feed the “fuzzy logic”.

I am not sure how useful it would be to actually weigh the washing. How would the machine react to a load of already wet towels, or for that matter rubber backed floor mats?

    Warranty terms from Sharp’s website:

“5. This limited warranty shall not apply in respect of the following:”

“ii. defects caused by the Product being subjected to any of the following: …unauthorised modifications or connections, unauthorised opening or repair, use of unauthorised spare parts,…”

So unless the defect was caused by the unauthorised modification, Sharp are bound to honour the warranty.

My essential toolkit comprises screwdrivers (Pozi No2, Philips No2, T15, T20, 6mm flat), adjustable pliers, test meter (all in one), pocket LED torch, laptop, kneeling pad. This gets me well on the way to finishing most jobs.

In my experience, most are only stocked by Indesit themselves, around £15 less 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} trade discount, plus P&P.

Protective main bonding – connection of metal gas and water pipes to main earthing system?

Not a customer, but someone’s probably sold for £25 or thrown out an 18 month old £399 Fagor washer dryer because the drain filter is blocked:
