It may well work for an absorbtion system, but on a vapour compression system, its not a very wise thing to do. 🙂

“It then goes through the evaporator then through the suction pipe back into the compressor to go back under pressure and return round the system again.”Thanks Bryan for the explanation of the refrigeration cycle of a capillary system. I understand the basis of this. But as i said in my previous post im confused by the fact that i am getting pressure returning from the evaporator. With the high side connected to the compressor and the low side disconnected, if i put my thumb over to block the pipe( low side) i get a build up of back pressure. I know you can get moisture freezing at the point where the capillary enters the evaporator and warming the area allows the refrigerant to flow and the new dryer will soak up the moisture.
So, as i am getting back pressure, there is not a complete restriction. Could it be a partial restriction? and if so it would have to be something like wax build up and not frozen moisture as no refrigerant is in the system at this point? Thanks for your help. Subssubs
ParticipantRe: Compressor too large?
Hi Bryan. I did change the dryer. Whats happening is a bit confusing as ive not had this before like this. It is doing it before ive even gassed it. If i run the compressor with the suction line disconected there is back pressure but the compressor still gets noisy, if i disconect it from the condenser, its quiet and seems normal. It was also ok when i disconected the capillary from the dryer. Could the compressor be too large for the bore and length of capillary causing too much restriction?, or even a faulty compressor.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WM51 door latch puzzle
Its a long shot but may be worth checking. I remember the little plastic clips that secure the door bowl to the frame changed at one point and if they have been replaced with wrong ones they dont seat back properly sometimes making the door tight to shut.

ParticipantRe: Zanussi Defrost Heater
Done this one today. In case anyones interested, heres my advise. First of all, although it looks very fiddly, rest assured, it is VERY VERY fiddly. Wear 2 pairs of rubber gloves and have some plasters ready. After removing plastic casing to access evaporator use telescopic mirror to see heater connection plug at back of freezer and unplug. Note position of heater then remove from evaporator avoiding cuts from razor sharp fins. Replace with new heater, clipping back into position again avoiding too many cuts from razor sharp fins. Oh and by the way, dont worry too much about bending and squashing all the fins as you clip the new heater home, (its the only way you’ll get it clipped in). Be very careful while doing this, not to kink the evaporator return pipe or capillary as these are the only things holding the evaporator up while your wrestling with it. Be careful also not to cut the heater wires on the sharp fins too. Put back casing, wash blood from hands, apply plasters. Job done! Doddle! 😆

ParticipantRe: Bosch D/W SGS43E08GB (S9G1B) strip down
Thanks Martin! This machine is just 2 years old and is as clean as a whistle. No evidence of water around pressure chamber etc. Did notice lots of water droplets in breather tube, but put this down to condensation.
Told cus if it happens again soon, ill take it away and strip it down. Ill report back with my findings if and when this happens.Subs

ParticipantRe: Bosch D/W SGS43E08GB (S9G1B) strip down
I have a problem with one of these at the moment. It seems to have a very small and slow leak that is not at all obvious when looking at the usual areas. It takes about 3 weeks to fill the base enough to trip the float switch. I think it would be difficult to strip the machine down and trace such a small leak with no water circulating. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Just remembered. The board is held on with 2 little screws. Seems as though you have to remove whole front panel to access these, is this so.
Thanks
