    kwatt wrote:Hi WQ,

There has been a known issue, although rare, on that Beko range where the PCB will cause a pulse to be sent to the valve that controls the inlet to the conditioner compartment in that way. I’ve not heard of it happening on the prewash side but it’s too similar a symptom to ignore the deduction that that could be the problem.

Drum noise could be caused by the motor itself, motor bearings (almost unknown on a Beko) or the carbons which is not unknown. Or it could be the drum bearings on the wane which, again, is not unknown.

Like most machines these are designed for about 1200-2500 cycles of use so the volume of use is a huge factor in how long they will last before they are almost certain to fail. Divide by 350 roughly to get an average expected lifespan before something breaks. The caveat being, things can break sooner, it’s just a machine in the end.

But, if it were me walking in with the symptoms reported, I’d be looking to those as the likely suspects.

The only good news is that Beko parts, for the most part, aren’t too badly priced to be fair to them.

    K.

Thanks Kwatt, I shall pass that on to her when I see her tomorrow for lunch.

    Re: For your information.

Can I just thank everyone again for their kind words & thoughts over these last 2 weeks following my hubby’s passing. – You have all been very kind!

At the risk of “rambling” again, the whole of my life has changed in the space of 5 minutes. My husband was here, gone the next. Please I beg of you, whatever your circumstances, cherish every minute with your loved ones. If you have a crossed word, put it right! 🙂 kick the ruddy washing machine instead & kiss & make up. All I have left now are my memories, & I can honestly say hand on heart, I have no bad ones!

landroverben wrote:Thanks very much for the advice so far. I think that I could fit in a slimline dryer above the washing machine (only a shallow dryer will fit due to a sloping ceiling). Due to location it would have to be a condenser dryer, so the only product I can find to fit the bill is the Zanussi TC180W.
Does anyone know if this dryer is any good? Do you think that a separate washing machine and this compromise (only 3.5kg) dryer is the safer bet?

    Thanks for your advice,

    Ben

    Hi Ben,
I have had one of those Zanussi Studio Machines along with the matching dishwasher & to be honest, I had nothing but bother with both appliances. It cost me £319 (dryer) from Currys in 2004. Net result ended up being scrapped after 2.5yrs. Yes the dryer is a good dryer especially when space is tight, I can’t argue with that, but the drum is rather small & if you do a lot of laundry like I do, you will be on for hours drying them. I had problems with the Condenser Grid in the door frequently blocking up with fluff (despite it having regular hot showers to clean it) which caused water to go every where. Even the Engineer from Service Force admitted it was a bad design & had to use a Screw driver to clean the thing, where it had blocked at the bottom, & don’t get me started on the issue of the red plastic plug which more often than not fell out. The grid is also a pain to get out of the door especially if you have Arthritis in the Joints like me. Kept catching the side of my thumbs. Also problems with heating elements blowing on a regular basis & having to be replaced. – If memory serves me correctly they were both made in Sweden?

IMO, I was very dissapointed & it rather put me off the Zannussi Brand for life. – But I could have been unlucky, you may have better luck than I.

Thanks Martin for your reply. I would have said same too be honest.

You could also contact your French supplier EDF (Electricite de France) for some advice. I am sure their UK office would be happy to assist you. 020 7242 9050 is their main switchboard number.

Re: Uk appliances being used in France (Paris)?? Is it possi

I believe it is possible to use UK appliances in France as the mains is 220-240v. (although I am not an Engineer, I did work for a Regional Electric Company for many years).

You may (depending on where you are going to reside) need an adapter type plug as sockets can vary a little. If memory serves me correctly, the electricity supply can be a little unstable in some rural parts, due to cables being mostly overhead, so an anti-surge plug/adapter may be a good investment.

    Bonne Chance 😀

The following morning it wouldnt heat up. I found that the fuse had gone. It was ok for one hours ironing. I have just switched it on again and it lit up then went off again !!!! I havent checked the fuse yet but if this is the problem , why would this happen ? I paid £50 for this and had a 4 hr round trip to collect it !!! I have tried to get my money back but the seller has not replied . Sadly I paid cash !!! So Im left with something I cannot use !!! Any ideas please. Many thanks Val

I have got a ARGOS steam press made by HINARI for ARGOS and it was £74.99 1/2 price brand new. It has come down to £69,99 I see http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4100621/Trail/searchtext{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}3ESTEAM+PRESS.htm

The steam function on mine only works when the dial is turned up to COTTON & the Steam Ready Yellow Light is lit. You could try contacting DOMENA via their web site at http://www.domena.co.uk to see what they say, but I think you won’t get much joy. – If you paid by PAYPAL, why don’t you file a Dispute & ask them to do a chargeback transaction against the seller? – Otherwise I am afraid its a case of chalking it down to experience I am afraid. – WQ

    Re: General Dyson question…

That’s an interesting post Kwatt – Ta!

Not trying to flame or be controversial but me thinks the makers of other Vacs are being a little hypocritical & would say that about Dyson wouldn’t they? Otherwise, why bend over backwards to copy Dyson’s design i.e. producing other so-called bagless models & in some cases infringe patent copyright……the case of Dyson v Hoover springs to mind, if the bagless cleaners are no good so to speak?

I would say IMO that I prefer a bagless to a bag. Henry’s Bag used to pong after a couple of days of picking up dog hair despite using Neutradol freshener in the bag & I “lost” suction as the bag filled. Although it is early days, I don’t get that with our Dyson DC024. – I can just go the bin, push a button, hey presto canister empties into bin direct – Job done.

My sister has a SEBO which I bought her from Argos a few months ago & whilst it is a good machine, it is just a bit to big for my rather small bungalow, other I would have gone for the SEBO. I needed something that would “shrink” to fit in small cupby hole of a hall. (trust me if you saw the size of my shoebox bungalow you would appreciate where I am coming from.) 😕

    New Dyson Fan

I must admit I am very impressed with our new compact vac, a Dyson DC024 All Floor. (gift from Mr. WQ)- I was beginning to struggle a little with our Henry now I am getting older & one’s hips & back is starting to wear. Joys of getting old !!! 😥

My only gripe is the washing of the filters. Bit of a faff to get the ball filter out & that dreadful combi-brush crevice tool irritates.

Mr. WQ has put Henry in the garage & consigned him to be used to clean the car, but at least he is still smiling. (Henry that is…….Mr. WQ never smiles!) Hmmmmmm, maybe I should consign him to the garage as well?

    Re: W3922 vs ISE10

When I was in the market last year for a new machine, I was very tempted to go down the ISE route. The only reason I didn’t was that was no supplier listed for the North East where I live, & it wasn’t until I bought the Miele machine, that Kwatt pointed out they could have supplied me with one, but it was too late!

I do have a Miele machine which I bought from John Lewis’s in town, yes it is quiet, yes it washes well, but it has needed a couple of service calls within the first year, & if am honest I do regret buying in my haste now.

I know I am replying late on in this thread, but my sister has one of these machines and it can be tempremental on the spin cycle. It’s out of balance mechanismn is super sensitive and so clothes can be left unspun i.e. soaking wet and need the seperate spin cycle. Same if you leave a load in a rinse and hold cycle it will need to have the dial turned to spin afterwards. (Dial down towards the bottom) – I know because she is forever moaning about it……..but I did offer to buy her a better machine.

She tells me the Spin/End light only comes on when the machine is finished it’s cycle in conjuction with the ready light. The wash light comes on when it is in operation.

I hope that helps you. – 😀 WQ

    Re: Chlorine Based Dishwasher Detergent

Thanks for your replies & my apologies for the delay in replying. My dog (Tara) 🙁 has been rather poorly over the weekend with a seizure and so I have been back and forth to vets! The joys of old age I am afraid, she is 15yrs old and looks as if she has Epilepsy. I know better tommorow when the blood results come back.

Getting back to DWD, I find the Fairy Active Bursts overfoam, granted they do clean very well, but in view of heater problems with this type of machine, I don’t wish to tempt provenance.

For some reason the liquid gel detergent seems to clean much much better than the traditional powder. – WQ
