Re: Just how good are dishwashers – please ?

    Hi There,

Just more or less to echo Kwatt’s post, I too would recomend a dishwasher. My present home is a small bungalow and in our kitchen my dishwasher is a bench top (4 place one) and works ok for us. Only snag is if I want to put the pans in, it has to been done in 2 washes, so if you have the space for an 8 place one, go for it says I. My hubby is also disabled with Congestive heart and Kidney Failure and gets very breathless and tired quickly, so for I find it very handy to be able to chuck everything in & it allows me more time with him & at the end of the night, take everything out and put it away. No more tea towels and all that jazz.

Can I suggest these http://www.astonishcleanersweb.co.uk/product/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=27 made by Astonish. They are very good at cleaning chip pans/deep fat fryers & I use them to clean our fryer out.

Good luck with whatever you decide. – WQ 😀

    Sorted

We managed to return the Typhoon & get a refund and after much persuasion on my part, (put it this way I earned my cream tea)

I made a 1/2 contribution to my sister’s purchase of a Sebo Automatic X1.1 from Argos priced at £199.59 I have also committed myself to buying the bags for her at £10.79 a time. (She baulked at the cost of them.)

You were certainly right Kwatt ! they are expensive but they seem very well screwed together & rather sturdy. So perhaps it will last a good few years.

    Here’s Hoping

I am just about to go and pull the car out of the garage & pick up my sis as I am rapidly typing this. Talk about multi-tasking!

We shall go and do battle with Tesco’s & then a whip over to the Silverlink to see what the two C’s have to offer & then maybe a spot of afternoon tea. I gonna need a cream scone and a cuppa by the sounds of it.

Thank you – I shall let you know how we get on!

Thanks for the information Gentleman. I have to say you have rather suprised me Kwatt as Hoover was a very good cleaner. (Sighs) In the old days we used to sell more Hoover Uprights than the Electrolux, but more Electrolux Cylinders than the Hoover ones. I guess PRC has a lot to answer for!!!!!!!

Maybe your next project for ISE is to design a Vac? Now any recomendations for the £100 bracket or do I need to up the anti & take the plastic with me?

    Re: Typhoon Dream House

By the looks of it Kwatt it’s going to have to go back this afternoon because the bottom part where the filter is has mysteriously cracked. Both hubby and I had a look at it yesterday when we took her back home. Tools badly fit together in-short it is rather shoddy. The sticker on the bottom says “Made for Tesco Stores by Texplant BD99”

Like the good sister I am I shall giver her £50 to go with her £49 so she buy a Leccylux or Hoover.

    Beko

My sister who is on a low income bought a Beko WMA510 Machine from Grattan Catalogue at Christmas. We paid for the matching condensor dryer for her as well as extended warranties from Domgen. (I paid just over £50 for both warranties.) She paid £155 for the washer plus £25 delivery charge, which came direct from Beko within 2 days. Ok it only has a 1000 spin speed but she is happy with it, it is simple to use & she likes it.

Irony is when my own Whirlpool washer quit my insurance company would only replace my washer with a Beko and the snob in me said NO. I wanted something could stand a bit of hammering because of my hubby’s kidney failure. Instead I bought a Miele, which has been nothing short of a pain in the arspects because of some calibration sensor do-dah that keeps going wrong & needs Mr Miele’s PC whatsit to put it right. Like you, I did consider an ISE as my postcode is NE & there was nobody in my area to assist, which is why I went to John Lewis’s in town.

    Hope you get sorted m8.

    Penguin45 wrote:In plain English……..

The two popular compact dryers are the White Knight and the Hotpoint group machines (several different badges, same machine).

The WK machine is a rear vent. Its major weakness is that the drum support/hub bearing unit starts to work loose on the back of the drum, neccessitating the purchase of a new drum as the hub is not a spare part. The latest machines have got rid of the hub and the drum runs on felt slip rings front and rear, which get chewed up with alarming regularity.

The Hotpoint machine is a front vent. Due to cost cutting in production, the belt tensioning mechanism has been removed and an elasticated belt substituted. These fail regularly. Helo has had several where the tension of the belt pulling on the shaft of the motor has buckled the floor of the machine, doubtless causing the belt to run off the motor shaft.

Both machines are a bit cheap and cheerful, as you might expect from the price point – you pays your money and takes your pick.

    Regards,
    Penguin45.

Which is why I mourn the passing of Creda & the TI Group as we once knew it. I wonder how long it will take Merphoney to close down all UK operations and transfer to the People’s Republic of cheap and nasty.

You know dear Penguin you have shocked me to the core when you mention that now White Knight are now “cheaping” their products. I recall the one’s in our showroom were well made and proud to boast with a little label & BS Logo that the drum was made with British Steel.

    Sad day. – WQ 🙁

Back in ye olden days when one worked for NEEB I would have recomended Creda or Jackson as being the most reliable. ‘Course that was in the days of when Creda/Jackson was part of TI Group. (Showing my age)
White Knight made by Crosslee Industries (Old Philips Factory) are also very good & my personal recomendation would be them.

As for new generation Creda/Indesit (Asda is flogging one for £85) I really can’t advise, my hunch would be that if it is made by the Merphoney Group stay well clear!!!

Salt goes into Right hand side of the machine. Rinse Aid goes into the spout at the rear of the machine. The cap is like an old fashioned softner cap if memory serves me correctly & filling area is quite narrow. Don’t recomend the 3 in one thingies!

The sensor rib is the little rectangular stainless steel grid bit in the drum just behind the filter in the front of the door aperture. – WQ

Oh Gosh looks like I could be wrong! As far as I know it may be a one that can be used either with the cord or cordless. I know Goblin used to do a one as did Hinari.

Maybe an e-mail to Argos may clarify?

I am quite a fan of cordless irons (not those horrid Steam Gen Things or for that matter the dreaded Domena Press that ironed in more creases than it took out…..shiny pants well that is another story.)

    Argos have one http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4101338/Trail/searchtext{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}3ECORDLESS+IRON.htm
