thanks all. I,ve done some more research and have been told its a not uncommon fault originating on the main board. I think this might be a job where it will be best to just politely decline.

    thanks again Wilf

isnt this a convection oven with fan assistance? if it is have you got continuity through both top and bottom element? bottom element my guess.

more and more I find myself looking away from the wholesalers, just today I needed a seal for a Rangemaster Connect trade £11.61+ vat Amazon £8.65 inc vat and delivery. it might well be three days delivery whereas Connect are next day but at such price differences the wait is worth it. same last week LG door interlock a good £3 cheaper with no minimum order or delivery charge. as long as you have a good base of cooker elements and carbons etc the minimum order delivery charge and price differences are making the big boys also rans

so when their telly packs up they will get it mended and not upgrade to the latest with all the new whistles and bells. same with computers phones etc. the only way this will happen is if the price of new goes up a lot and the price of mending goes down a lot. good luck with that.

I didnt know the new shocks came with repair plates. I have fitted a penny washer on the base and have been back to one of the machines a couple of years on and still going strong.

reliability is hugely better on anything made than was the case thirty years ago materials development has seen to that. I happened to meet a man that owned a car spares shop near to us years ago now retired. he was recalling the first cold days of winter in the 70s 80s etc customers queuing down the street antifreeze, batteries, hoses, pumps, belts, radiators, thermostats, radweld, points, plugs, leads, caps, etc etc then his day to day brake hoses, pads, alternators, and panels for mot work. I and no doubt you kept various bit in the boot for tinkering as necessary. those days are gone.
I just cant see work increasing because its a good idea to keep stuff for longer which is no doubt good for the planet. I’m still running a zanussi fl1084 but I’m probably barmy!

as I see it there will need to be two changes
1 the general public will need to think repair. and as ALL every day products become more reliable and cheaper the just buy a new one has taken hold
2 the need to repair must be there to support someone to carry out those repairs and once again as ALL products become more reliable and cheaper who would look at this trade as a long term career?
to see any changes that will stop the slow death of this business two things must happen, reliability goes down and new prices go up. that aint going to happen

I was very tempted but I once caught a cold changing a hot tap when a gate valve snapped and I had to get a plumber in, a long shot I know but I dont want a repeat. In the end it cost me a free boot on the plumbers Zanussi.

doesnt always (never in my case) work. it seem to me that the board can sometimes be taken out by a blocked pump. as a filter is a customer maintenance issue why should there need to be any sort of jiggery pokery needed?

looks like the standard Beko type where you can take the top carrier off and give it a good wash.

Its been years since I,ve had eight jobs a day. In over forty years in this job I bought my house and raised two kids but now I,m just about hanging in waiting for retirement. Probably a case of the job stopping before I do. To be honest if I were twenty years younger and fitter this job would be a big no no.
This is just my opinion and I wish you well whatever you decide but I now know that the older you get the harder it becomes to compete against the younger generation should you need to change career course.
