I’ve been back to this machine to change the ntc which I found was rather loose. the toc had tripped again checked the condenser hose and jet all clear valve reads at about 4.6k machine runs, heats, blows, pump runs intermittently but in the nine or ten minutes I ran it there was no supply volts to the valve. all connections look good looks like a board fault unless anyone knows different e.g. does it take longer before the valve kicks in or would a load make any difference?

    thanks wilf

Four bolts and the complete blower/ heater box comes off you cant split it as the glue is too strong but you can wash it under a tap cleans it perfectly. the duct into the tub is straight down the customer even got his vacuum and sucked it out to his and my satisfaction. The water jet comes into the duct at the back I will check this again but there were none of the usual no condenser (hot and wet) symptoms

front off, fan front cover off, fan cover disc off just flex and pull, fan off watch for the washers, fan duct off pull forward about an inch to disengage. you can then just about get to the capacitor without removing the drum, its a bit fiddly but doable.

Argos price for new washers start at £139.99 with a guarantee. Whats left to mend? A friend has had a cheapie Indesit for 5 years never gone wrong “If it packs up I’ll just go and get another at that price it doesn’t owe me anything” Us repairers are a dying breed, get used to it!

I bet the faulty heater didnt have the rubber with a shoulder on it. If the housing is tapered to hold the heater your ok but if its a parallel hole you could be in trouble it happened to me years back. but the price difference could be the difference between affordable job or not. I have seen Beko elements fitted in Bosch which are cheaper and have the shoulder rubber but you dont know the value of the thermal internal fuse.

I think any of our type of work surviving much longer is being optimistic.

It looks to me that the push is for induction hobs which are getting cheaper all the time and heat pump home heating which isnt ,yet. New builds will go down this route fairly quickly but older properties pose more of a challenge. I suppose it will all be down to cost. The other question is do the energy companies want it? Just think on a good day with solar panels on the roof powering a heat pump compressor you could get a tank of hot water for …well nothing!
