ParticipantMercury’s are great as are Falcons and both British and both high quality, Britanias are pretty good cookers too but stupid parts prices put me off recommending them.
It may be half the price of an AGA but theres alot to an AGA’s price, it needs to be built in your kitchen for a start its not delivered assembled, its heavy cast iron all over so costs are high for production, you will also never need to replace an AGA as all parts are available for repairs or replacement, they still have the casts for the original AGA’s from the 30’s even, the build quality is second to none, lastly though nothing cooks like an AGA oven, and thats why people go nuts over them still.

Yes it does, until the pressure switch is activated it wont allow the gas through, have you refixed the back panel on before testing the oven ?
With the fan it could be that it has gone but there is also a fan delay board fitted (unless its one of the first ones and has never been updated) that will delay the oven stir fan coming on, this was to allow the flame time to stabilize as I remember there were delay timers of 5 and 15 seconds to start with which were finally modified to 30 seconds delay. Most engineers who have attended these ovens tend not to bother doing a repair on them again 😀 they are a walk in the park though when compared to the GRF that replaced them !!!

ParticipantCheck the tube attached to the pressure switch first of all, it should be pushed through a hole leading out of the back service panel,, check all the screws are in the back panel too.
Which fan is stopping intermitantly ? the cooling or stir fan ?

ParticipantIt will be the fan element, I have fitted a few of these, a new more beefy updated element is available now from AGA and depending on wheter they transfer their 5 year parts warranty you could possibly get it for free, unlike other companies with their 5 year warranties with AGA you dont have to use their engineers to get the part for free and they will send out the part on your/your engineers say so.

Participant2 year warranty is at the manufacturers discretion if you dont register, the quote was from the terms and conditions on the bosch website.

Had it not been for this forum i’d have been stuck with a 1yr guarantee!
Nah you wouldn’t. You get your two years anyway. All you need is proof of purchase.
BTW Comet will cover the first 12 months and BSH the second year. The second years warranty like most manufacturers is ONLY available to people who register their appliance.
Your appliance automatically comes with a 12 month full manufacturer’s guarantee which covers all labour, materials or carriage costs (subject to terms and conditions), however, if you register your Bosch appliance, you’ll receive the second year’s manufacturers guarantee absolutely FREE.

If the appliance was manufactured before Jan 2008 which you would know by the serial number then any gas cooker can be installed.Just to add to this on the public forums, the above rule has now expired (01/06/08 ) and now all new cookers fitted in flats must have fsd’s fitted irrespective of manufacturing date, second hand cookers are not covered by this rule though and can continue to be fitted in flats.

if its not one of those, its the thermostat thats faulty, the latter being more probable
This one is a plastic disc behind a glass fascia, stoves had a problem with it and came out with an update, a small metal disc that stuck to the plastic one to strengthen it.

What’s it like to get into a customers home, can an engineer carry it on site? steps into the house etc. They save alot of messing, cant imagine that the 44kg version is very engineer friendly but the aluminum ones we got from Stoves weren’t too bad.

Here you go, this is just about the same as what we used when I was at Stoves, great for 900mm tall double ovens.

These were the ones we had at Stoves though as you can see they are lighter but also alot more expensive.

ParticipantThats a soft lock out if just the green light is flashing….. but be prepared for it to cost a fortune, if you ring stoves I believe you will be offered either a call out fee of around £85 + parts or £150 for a years insurance, if you are going to have the repair done then pay the £150 as the main pcb will probably be swapped and this alone costs over £150.

Phidom wrote: As far as I’m concerned you can do jobs which don’t involve disturbing any gas plumbing or settings without being CORGI registered.
The problem is that this appliance will has gas connected, it is as far as the law is concerned a gas appliance, first of all will your insurance cover you if there should be a problem arise ? Second of all why have CORGI or the HSE never given a definitive answer ?? Christ knows its a question that has been asked of them enough times, the most frustrating thing about it though is that you will get two different answers from CORGI depending on who you speak to, one will say its fine as long as etc.. the other will say no, as its got gas connected its classed as a gas appliance etc..
As a gas engineer I also take responsibility of informing the customer of any installation defects on my visit as the last person to work on the appliance, how does that rule work for non CORGI ? If anything was pulled up at a later date (dangerous installation etc) then where would you stand as a non registered person being the last to work on this appliance ?
Its all a bit open for interpretation my liking.

ParticipantIs it a 1000 you have seen in the flesh ?
If so that does have a smaller oven than the 900 or 1100 versions.

ParticipantWhen I last worked for stoves, that door and hinge pack were obsolete (3+ years ago) they will send you a new door and hinge pack but expect it to be expensive.
