    Re: Free Estimate.

I charge a labour charge only – I don’t say “call out charge” as that can alter the customers perception of what’s on offer. I say, “We have an all inclusive labour charge which is fixed at £43; no extras for time + any parts as required; you will be informed of this if any are needed. If the machine is found to be too expensive to repair, then it’ll just be £25 to cover my fuel and time to strip the machine to find the fault.” 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of customers are fine with this as you have set out your stall for them to make the decision.
If they say, “Do you do free estimates?” I say, “I’ll try to give you a rough idea over the phone” or after that initial chat, “So how much would you want to spend on this machine?” If it’s less than £40, we politely suggest that, in THEIR opinion, the machine is BER and decline the call. I will always say to customers that I am calling with a view to repairing their machine hence the labour charge. Most people asking for free estimates in my experience are just getting a nod from you to go and buy new – they just need that extra reassurance that what they are just about to do is OK.
I can do that over the phone for free…… 8)

Re: Hoover HD97E dishwasher E1 fault.

Before I put an axe through this thing…… :bang: :angry4:

I’ve taken the sump off and thoroughly cleaned it out – not much sludge present. Refitted it and after sorting numerous leaks from all the hoses, I’m still getting E1 fault. The machine was set to the 29 minute rinse / hold cycle to test fill and empty.
So….I tested the presssure switch contacts empty and full – switching perfectly. 😕 I connected a meter to the valve terminals and ran the machine from empty. Power at the valve OK; fills and the pressure switch clicks off. Power still at the valve…… 😕 😕 Stopped the machine and circuit tested the pressure switch again – working fine. Reconnected and switched machine back on. Power at the valve until 25 minutes and then E1 fault. Machine then auto drains a bit then switches power to the valve back on. But this time it is hydraulically locked off by the overfill. :hmm:
So the pressure switch and the overfill system is working, but still E1 faulting. The only thing I can think of is PCB – anyone have any thoughts on this? Anyone had this fault before?

    Thanks,

    Steve.

    Re: Whirlpool Washing Machine Drum

    Well, beat this!!

A small day centre for stroke victims and elderly people buys a Hoover HD 7kg washer from Currys. The caretaker had actually gone to Currys making it clear that the machine was for a day centre and that it would be used once a day or at most, twice if there was a disaster. He asked to buy a suitable machine for the job and was told that the Hoover was probably the best one to have. (stop the laughing at the back)
The machine is delivered and installed by Currys.

The machine does 4 washes over 4 days and the drum collapses…….. 😯

The caretaker rings Currys and is told that the machine is not covered by a warranty as it is being used commercially. :rolls: They won’t budge, so he rings Hoover directly. They say the same, “but 4 washes” he says ” Sorry, commercial usage is against warranty conditions” says Hoover.
    Enter Steve…… 8)
The bearings or drum spider had collapsed so badly that the spider had cut a slot in the outer tub, but of course, with a sealed tub the machine is unfortunately a scrapper. The caretaker is dumbfounded. Now imagine the scene………. 😥

I supplied and installed a proper machine (ISE 10) a week later and was told that neither Currys or Hoover were still not at all interested in sorting the problem and the machine was in effect a dead loss. This is a day centre for old folk; machine is 4 days old; something should be done.

If Hoover or Currys are reading this…..you should be utterly ashamed of this product and your conduct. The machine is not fit for purpose – period. It is irrelevant where it is; it is 4 day old garbage. Search your conscience……..
What is interesting to note is this day centre is council owned and therefore connected to their Trading Standards department……. 😉
    Hmmm………… 😳

    Re: diplomat adp8322 w/pool

This problem is common on Whirlpool dishwashers – the part you need is the “filter cover sieve” and it fits to the sump. Take out the filters, remove the lower rotor, lift the top rotor supply pipe out of its position, take off the cover (that goes round the pipes) and the “filter cover sieve” is now exposed. It is the part that the bottom rotor screws on to. Just unsrew and replace this piece.
If you look carefully at the pipe sockets, you will notice 2 square holes either side of the pipe sockets. These are the locking tabs for the pipe unit and they will almost certainly be broken. 😉

It’s an Electrolux you would usually find dressed as an AEG. It’s using EDW1503 PCB control in a Diva 60cm body type.

Re: Smeg F67-5 element not switching off

You would need to remove the knob and lid to look at the selector unit. Power off!!!
Remove the screws that hold the unit in (behind the knob) and turn the selector over. Look at each leaf switch in turn; look for signs of burning and discolouration. Refit the knob and turn the selector while observing the switches open and close. That will allow you to establish the fault.
As well as this, you will need to find the cause of the MCB tripping off, so both faults will have to be found before pricing or buying parts. It’s worth a try as Smeg ovens are quite well made.

Again, Power off before any inspection. :plug:

Re: Smeg F67-5 element not switching off

Sounds like a switch in the selector unit is sticking together. If the machine has also tripped the power, it will need to be insulation tested. Smeg parts are not cheap so accurate fault finding is essential. Power off if you are to investigate further, but an engineer visit for this fault would be money wisely spent. 😉

Why don’t you get Tony (EMW) to repair and reprogram it? He’s regularly on here saying that they can sort these modules…..worth a go!! It would be a much quicker option.
