ParticipantRe: Teka Tdw59/2f1 Facia
As a follow up on this one. I was able to find a similar Diplomat machine and compare the components. The following parts fit a treat. The facia is black instead of white but who cares, it’s hidden behind the decor panel!
SMG763735661 facia £19
SMG697690139 switch £10Result! 😀

Richard, there is a useful document in your inbox 😉

The machine will abort the heat pause if no temperature rise is detected in one minute or so.
The economy switch is in series with the thermistor, therefore the machine will only heat for one minute and then abort if the economy switch is selected.
The fact that you have heat for one minute implies that your problem must be in the economy switch or the thermistor wiring.

Jim. There is a diagnostic programme on this machine that includes a test for leaks. Test Function L6
It fills to a high level and then spins for several minutes at 250rpm.
I have sent you the diagnostics by email in case you cant find it on TDS.

That’s the only thing I could come up with. We’ll never know for sure as I left the motor with the customer.

Follow up on this one.
It turned out to be the motor. Surprisingly, I can’t find anything wrong with the motor with the test meter. Resistances of tacho, arm and field were exactly the same as the replacement motor and the earth reading was infinity.
Wondering if the fault may be intermittent on the module, I reconnected the old motor to make sure, but the fault followed the motor.
Although the machine is now working and everyone is happy, I would still love an explanation of the fault! I hate not knowing!

Don’t miss the reason for the stat failing. Normallly it’s due to an earth fault on the harness by the motor. The orange wire IIRC

ParticipantRe: HOTPOINT CTD80 Tumble dryer
Several of these suffer from a faulty capacitor. It tends to be intermittent so it can be a sod to diagnose. The drum stops to reverse and then doesn’t start again causing the TOC to cut out.

ParticipantRe: indesit widl f 03
NTC stands for Negative Temperature Coefficient.
This means that the resistance of the thermistor reduces as the temperature increases.
A standard resistor increases the resistance as it gets hotter.
( compare with PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient).. Resistance rises as temperature increases.) Often used as start devices in fridge compressors.

ParticipantRe: PAT Test failure
Apparently this was the only appliance in the whole school that failed, so I would imagine that they are using the equipment correctly.
I think some PAT testers test a leakage current on AC rather than just reading insulation resistance at 500V DC as we do on our tests.
I haven’t heard the outcome yet but I will follow it up shortly.

ParticipantRe: PAT Test failure
Thanks guys. I have tested the macihine for over 30 minutes and through a heat pause.
The company that done the PAT test are going to retest so it should be interesting.
