Make sure that you check all the obvious first before going for a module/timer.

    Pressure switch sticking?
‘No spin’ feature selected or switch faulty (if there is one)?
    Faulty edge connector on module.

    Hi Paul.

Can you confirm that you have checked continuity through both poles of the on off switch… With a test meter not a non-contact volts tester! It is amazing how many engineers miss a faulty neutral connection!

Remember all tests must be done with the plug disconnected from the mains.

By the way, have you tried another appliance in the socket?

I agree that mains sensing screwdrivers have their place but please don’t rely on them for diagnostic purposes.

Only ever use them to prove that a circuit HAS power, not that is does not. If you see what I mean.

They can often pick up stray voltages (even static on plastic items).

The ONLY safe way to check appliances is with the plug removed from the wall and use a low resistance meter to check continuity through the circuits.

Always check the neutral connections as well by the way.

The heater is often isolatted by a switch on the jockey pulley arm that stops the heat if the motor fails or if the belt snaps.

If the motor is dead then it will appear as if the heater is dead too.

Some of these have a fuse inside the console housing by memory.

    Clutching at straws here really

You really shouldn’t go down that route. We call it a stat but it is acually a thermal fuse. You wouldn’t put a nail in the plug because the fuse keeps blowing!

The thermal fuse will be blowing for a reason:-

1)Check that the exhaust stat is tripping at about 58 degrees by taking the temperature of the fan housing as close to the floor as possible. The surface temperature of the metal housing by the fan should cycle with a parallax of about 5 degrees within the range of about 48-60 degrees.

2)Check that the heat is off on reverse tumbles. (if you use a surface temperature probe (or an infa-red thermometer) you will see the temperature drop during the reverse tumble.

    3) Check the heat is off during the tumble cool period.. (Last 10 mins or so)

4)Look for air leaks around the air ducts. Right hand side panel off… and check that the white plastic casings are all clipped in place.

    5) Check the rear felt seal

I don’t work on these either, but the ones I have seen have all had a wiring diagram inside the console housing.

Three flashes normally indicates a faulty or disconnected temperature sensor (in the heater).

There should be a leaflet in the box with the stats.

Your old pump is rated at 34W. is the new one the same rating as some are 20W?

Re: Help on old Zanussi washer

I had a dishwasher do this to me a few months ago. It turned out to be a small piece of plastic lodged in the convoluted drain hose. The plastic was transparent and impossible to see or feel. The blockage moved like a small valve and was only causing a problem under full flow conditions.

Can you try a different drain hose?

    Good luck

It’s the 10mm ratchet spanner that makes all the difference.

Do check Repairs@ first though. If there’s a UKW listed engineer in your area, they will almost certainly a lot cheaper that Bosch’s own engineers.

Sorry to state the obvious about the power off before investigating, however these pages are viewed by many people, not all are competent.
