Check your contract and job description. If its not in your job description you could talk to your HR department and raise the point. Look at the technical aspects, any chemicals being used which you would not use within your everday role? Good Luck.

As previously said it takes a long time and effort to fully clean any appliance. Remember the days of the second hand market?

A quick flick with a cloth and throw some descaler at a washing machine will leave a lot of dissapointed customers.

To do it properly will leave a lot of naffed off engineers/ :rolls:

Sounds tempting certainly could do with the exercise, not sure about the distance though. Did once do a brush change on a Hotpoint WM on a Sunday morning nipped in whilst out on my bike, (motorbike).
Dont know what the customers would think if I turned up all redfaced and gasping though……. 😳

Re: how bright should a magnetron be on a microwave?

Seriously, you can do yourself a lot of damage on the wrong side of the HV (high voltage ) or the end of a magnetron.
Looking at your last posts, buzzing microwaves if this is connected. assuming that the microwave is actually cooking and noisy it could be the transformer or even a broken magnet on the magnetron. Rule of thumb though to run the LV side and the transformer disconnect the secondary side of the transformer, this will allow you run the transformer and all upto it. Never run the HV side with the covers off and dont forget to put something inside to absorb the energy (glass of water etc).
Always discharge the capacitor to the case before going inside after this has being running. If your unsure though leave well alone its not something to dable with on the off chance.
Its possible that the transformer will only be noisy when under load. i.e running with the HV side working.
    Is it an expensive oven???????

As alf said, you can do it loosening the screws. Crucial thing is if the pulley is still attached the brake spring cant go anywhere its only a problem when you take of the thrust bearing and pulley off. Then if you remove the brake spring housing the spring will go and you wont get it back without the brake spring removal tool.

Cant say Ive ever watched a magnetron glow nor would I want too….
The magnetron emits microwaves, I know it gets hot whilst doing this but for safety sake never ran a microwave and watched the magnetron. sounds really dodgy and brings back all the warnings of cooking your insides…..If your looking down the end of a magnetron its like watching a bullet coming up out of a rifle barrell….Scary.
    Sure the bulbs not gone….

    Re: T V Licence

When I had a retail outlet, I was constantly getting letters at first I would telephone and advise them, nothing much changed.

One day a lone (self employed) enforcement / collection guy came on our doorstep after knocking on many more doors on the local estate.
He checked the computer for a tv card and checked the back of the shop for any receiver. I know if you claim to use a TV as a monitor etc it must not be capable of receiving a uhf signal. If you have cctv the monitor it must be just that a monitor and not one of the multipurpose type that use to be available that accepted radio and tv signals as well. There is no problem with computers as long as the monitor is a monitor and no tv card, phones are no problem.

Once he made his visit we never got another letter. I did on a few occasions retail the odd tv, that would have caused a problem as I would have had to prove they were never displayed with a tv signal same for the fridges with TV’s built in.

If you dont have the equipment to watch television dont worry, but make sure your equipment is ok.

Re: People who don,nt want to pay

visiting a customer today on behalf of a manufacturer, the customer firstly takes 5 mins to find the front door keys then opens the door to demand I go around the back so as to save taking my shoes off. (incidentally I do carry shoe covers in the case I find a nice cream carpet etc this didnt look the case here). He opens the gate after a few more minutes and stands over me. Im making pleasent conversation when he quizzes me over firstly the job in hand a simple mod and then starts to ask about the life of the product and the cost of repalcing for example a compressor. Being vague about charges I suggested in that instance he should get it checked out rather than making assumptions on cost or whats failed after all its a fairly expensive purchase. ” well you would always come out and give a free estimate wouldnt you”. On my way down to him I passed the filling station selling diesal at £1.19 per litre which I kindly informed him and again making polite conversation asked him what business are you in. “Im a management consultant” He proudly chirped. His faced changed when I asked him tomorrow morning does he fancy driving 20 miles and consulting for me for half a day for nothing?
I left on good terms but content in knowing that he now realizes I am just the same as him. I need to be paid just the same as he does. Unless he does turn up in the morning of course. Hope not has I still think he is a kn*b. 😉
The art is identifying when someone is genuine or likely to take the mickey and I believe it is an art that gets better with practice. Consider yours to be just another practice.

Cooker elements (as per previous threads) lucky to get out of the door.
I am considering a cheque in the bank and cleared warranty 😆
Before the backlash, only joking but on a serious note we need to be supplied with decent quality and free from defect spares to uphold any form of warranty and reputation. Sadly this doesnt always happen. When a manufacturer has for instance a badly designed part or known defect it doesnt always take the proper route and remove / scrap that part it will simply introduce that laler replacement and roll it out. How many boards have been replaced to find the new ones totally varnished and protected to stop moisture etc, Known fault?
