ParticipantRe: Beko Condensing Dryer DPU8360w funny smell!
It appears that damp fluff is carried round the various passageways and separates out to form a “felt” layer which can dry out and build up to restrict airflow….it will also get re-dampened with each new drying-load. pull the filter at the bottom of the porthole-opening and shine a torch down…..iirc,there are ducts going off left and right….if there’s lint there, you need to do a full strip and clean! You can’t get in properly without dismantling and taking the motor/fan unit out. Is your smell akin to a wet, dirty dog?…..the condenser slides out and has 2 sets of passageways! one lot front-toback, the others ,side to side….a hosepipe will wash out the lint and fluff.

ParticipantRe: Zanussi ZWF16581W – Sealed drum?
After ignoring me, my son bought a haier machine….it lasted almost 2 years. He got used to switching it off at the mains, to reset it’s brain and other foibles. When the drain- pump let out the magic smoke and retired, he bit on the bullet and bought the top-rangeISE
That was several years ago.
He is adamant that this has been his best investment other than his house. the drum is HUGE …and bears no relationship to the previous machines he had – Hoover, In de s*it and the dreaded Haier. all were supposedly 3/4 the capacity of the ISE, but the drum only half the size… It’s fast, ultra-quiet, economical, washes really well and his ECZEMA has virtually gone since the ISE washes and rinses so much better. He has had it several years now and it hasn’t missed a beat.
He’s convinced it will not need attention during it’s 10-year warranty. He and wifey have now got their first child, so it will get a real workout now!
The ISE is the nearest thing you’ll get to a £2500 upwards launderette machine!.beautifully engineered to last and be easily repairable.cockney steve
ParticipantRe: servis washing machine
After that length of service, it could be motor-brushes, but you’d normally get erratic drum movements and “odd” sounding motor a while beforehand.
If the board is U/S you may have trouble sourcing one ,as i think Servis went bust a while since….you may be able to get a secondhand one from a scrapyard /appliance repairer/recycler/ site such as “freecycle”
Presume you already tried the “spares” facility linked on this site?cockney steve
ParticipantRe: Zanussi fl1555w bearing oil?
I’d suggest you open the door, grip the edge of the drum (what you call the “basket” ) and try to wobble it from side to side/ up and down. It should remain centred in the inner ring of the rubber door-seal…..
If it wobbles and / or makes a grating or clonking, most likely the drum has detatched from it’s 3-legged support-spider or the spider has one or more broken legs.the empty drum should run true, smooth and quiet when revolved by hand.
The “grease” could be something left over from a previous wash, or muck from a breakage as outlined above.
NOT a professional W.G. engineer, so don’t take this as gospel!

ParticipantRe: LG F1222TD5 8kg Direct Drive
Well, you could be lucky and have just caught it….was the smell of burnt rubber? -sniff the door seal! It probably won’t have done a lot of good, but I don’t see you have a lot to lose by running the machine again. the fuse in the plug “should” protect you…..before using, check the drum turns freely and there’s not more laundry jamming it.
If you have someone competent, unplug the machine, take off top/back or whatever cabinet panels and follow your nose ! gubbins that’s been cooked by electrickery has a very strong and distinct smell……this should be done before re-trying the machine.
I’m NOT a whitegoods engineer,so this is not necessarily the correct way to go about it, but in your position, that’s where i’d start.

ParticipantRe: ASKO w660, no display on LCD panel
Even though he would have to relocate to the UK to buy an ISE. 😉
Blimey! Jim, I’ve turned into a senile old git! 😳
Jumped straight in without bothering to see where the topic originator resides.my excuse….old website had a separate bit at the bottom for furriners.
My No. 1 son is now saving for an ISE dryer to complement his ISE washer when the present dryer croaks.

ParticipantRe: ASKO w660, no display on LCD panel
Have you considered the harness? It’s spent ~ 20 years being jiggled around and an internal wire-break is a distinct possibility…..same happens in the motor-trade,-Central-locking /mirrors/windows…dodgy multipin-connector or broken/chafed/shorted wire….Driver’s door is favourite as it gets most use.
So, try board-connectors,test the harness AND GIVE EACH WIRE A GOOD WIGGLE AND TUG if no joy, consider a local indipendent TV/Electronics repairer…..there are trade firms that will repair boards, you’ll have to google.
IMHO, it’ll be a super machine when running and when it’s eventually dead, you’ll be convinced the ISE is it’s only worthwhile successor.

ParticipantRe: This Forum is so SLOW!
I too find the present incarnation a lot slower than it’s predecessor.
Also, when the list of sub-fora comes up, the header is not highlighted ,as a “click- on-here” icon, coupled with the slowness, this caused a lot of initial frustration.I must confess the Ubuntu (Linux) is about 3 issues obsolete and Opera at least une supersession.
They both work seamlessly without crashing,so I haven’t upgraded….Likewise the’puter is about 6 yrs. old.
As Colin Chapman used to say…”to get performance, simplify and add lightness”

.” I have an ancient AEG washing machine of similar vintage…it’s been used probably nearly every day for 12 yrs and I love it to bits…will be gutted when that one bites the dust!”
If you’re sensible (as your purchases would indicate, you are)
You’ll buy an ISE and get the quietest, smoothest, most economical ,efficient and thorough machine you’ve ever seen.No. 1 son eventually bit the bullet and still raves about just how good it is, no problems with his Eczema, saves on detergent and leccy and rates as his best investment ever, other than, possibly, his wife.

ParticipantRe: Problem with ASKO 20003 washing machine (drain pump)
If in the UK , try RS componehts (rswwwdot com) or Possiblyeven Maplin, Farnell, cpc electronics (preston)
Some are trade-only, but if you locate a depot and go to the trade-counter with the correct stock number and cash, they MAY just do you a “courtesy-sale” pack-qty is shown on the website in all cases afaik.

ParticipantRe: Problem with ASKO 20003 washing machine (drain pump)
A good electronics engineer would be able to ascertain the TYPE of component (triac/fet/mosfet/silicon transistor- from the surrounding circuit….as I see it, there’s going to be a large surge-current when the device switches the motor on, and a large voltage-spike when it switches out……check the board where the “legs” go in….B,E,C (or K) would indicate Base, Emitter , C (K) ollector…..-a transistor, whereas , i think, triacs have a “gate” instead of a base….sorry, i’m at the boundaries of my electronic knowledge. a semiconductor list with parameters and substitutes will take a bit of research on the net, as will tutorials.
An engineer who’se capable , MAY be reluctant to start delving, but once you explain that it’s worth , say, £50 to £100 for a repair, he’ll think it worthwhile, as he’s getting a realistic wage for his skills…that’s my experience , anyway.
NOTE. I’m neither an electronics, nor Whitegoods engineer.
browse the Whirlpool American-style Fridge thread in the appropriate sub forum (the one with around 60 pages 😯 ) there’s a lot of boffins posted on there and a P.M just MIGHT bear fruit.

ParticipantRe: Problem with ASKO 20003 washing machine (drain pump)
no, it’s frazzled….sometimes, if you get the light angled right, you will be able to see the printing “burned” onto the plastic…..if it’s exploded , you’ve had it.
A bit of research into semiconductors may tell you something..here’s where my knowledge goes thin…..Transistors/triacs/fet’s can all look the same, but work differently. mant spec’s overlap and often price is thecriterion for the manufacturer. You know the voltage (working) you know or can find the pump-current , but you need to know more than that to ascertain the type of device. I’d suggest an electronic circuit -board repairer,or electronic engineer would be a good start on Google……have you actually e-mailed Asko Tech. support? they may just be willing to tell you, you’ve nowt to lose!

ParticipantRe: zanussi zwf16070w1 door problem
This is a big “if”….but,- IF it’s the electronic doorlock which i THINK it is, then the contacts burn over time and eventually weld themselves together.
Continuing to use the machine in the manner you describe, COULD fry the main control-board.
The cost of the board makes a repair uneconomic. IIRC spares@Whitegoods has them under £20 and delivery is usually quicker than finding a local repairer/spares supplier with one in stock

ParticipantRe: BEKO no go!
What do I clean the motor contact with?
Fine glasspaper, assuming that by “motor-contact” you mean the cylinder if copper strips that the brushes bear against.
Don’t use (black) emery-paper, as the grit embeds into the copper and will increase wear of your new brushes. a ladie’s “emery-board” for doing fingernails is usually glasspaper and is OK for the job. (don’t ask how I know these things!cockney steve
ParticipantRe: Proline DWI 5212P
Spanky,- We’re not in any way belittling the people who buy this rubbish, but their “penny wise, pound foolish” decision-making.
Sure, anyone practical CAN keep one of these things running. I., myself have repaired a friend’s Chinese POS a couple of times, including cannibalising a washing-machine fill-solenoid to repair a burnt-out detergent-release solenoid.
The point is, the AVERAGE buyer has niether the time, inclination or skills to repair/replace/rework parts or make an accurate fault-diagnosis in the first place. This forum is full of posts by disillusioned people who thought that a cheap appliance would perform as wellas, and as reliably as, a dear one….. they don’t!
Unlike cars, where, generally, a cheap basic model is just as long-lived as a “flash ” one.
but the cheap one is not a status-symbol,so the extra outlay is for a luxurious interior, styling and prestige.Your car will still perform it’s primary function (transport) without aircon, yet you’re quite happy to spend the price of a half-decent appliance, just to get this optional extra fixed!
I totally agree that it’s much better to spend £15 on a part, than scrapping the machine..or, for that matter, spending 400 on aircon, rather than scrapping the car.
I’m sure that many posters’ frustration is simply due to this distorted sense of values , scrimping on appliances that are used day-in day-out, but quite happy to spend large sums on what might be termed luxuries , that are use a handful of times each year.
There, I feel better now i’ve got that off my chest 😆
