ModeratorRe: Questions
Just a quick query – this area has a couple of crap Currys and a lousy Comet superstore in operation. As a result customers are not too well disposed in taking up the service contract. I can sell the product but the out of warranty cover may be a problem. Is it fair to assume that irrespective of age the appliance is covered by a five year parts cover and if the customer wants no extended cover this will be honoured as long as a registered repairer fits the parts?

ModeratorRe: A Radical Thought
Now for a change Im not in agreement with both Chris and Kevin. Being a non moderator, I saw this subscriber forum as a way to register my opinion without the need for hiding my identity, and in the knowledge that what is said stays within the exclusive club. Perhaps where we have gone wrong is that topics which should be discussed in the subs forum now find themselves in open forum – I dont have a problem with that either, as long as I have the option. I have always had great respect for Ken’s attitude that UKW should be free, but we little people still have to work in an industry full of deceit, rogues and stitch-up companies. In time we may eliminate this but at the moment its the norm. If we have an excess of money in the pot, take Kevins idea and prop us up at the next meeting with some of it. As I understand it, those that subscribe should get something out of it – say free training when in the future this has to be paid for. I volunteer my money because I agree with the principal, those that don’t, have the option not to subscribe.

ModeratorRe: UK Whitegoods Meeting – Feb 06
I know we all want to make the next meeting a progression of the last, more spectacular, more people and a indication of where we are going but the cost of accommodation here is stretching the pocket for those of us that are one man bands. It has to be said that for the three day event, it adds up to £248 plus meals and entertainment in the evenings. Add to this the loss of income and most of us will be running up to the £500+ mark. Either Dave comes up with a good deal or we will lose those that we are trying to entice to join. Makes one realise what a blinder Alex played when he suggested Sibson.

ModeratorRe: Proline PDW080 45 cm dishwasher
Hi Kevin – No its an exposed S shaped element – Quoting a friend, very much like an Indesit/Ariston one but abit smaller. Manufactured by the famous Hiaer (mispelled) group. I may have to strangle something to fit – desperate times with this (quoteth Ken) poo

ModeratorRe: Proline PDW080 45 cm dishwasher
Yep – No problem, tried – Homespares, Masterpart, Connect and Comet all who seem to have no idea/stock. Looks like another waste of effort. If I remember right the dishwasher complete is listed at about £170 – perhaps its another disposable item!!

ModeratorRe: URGENT WARNING
I believe this is a little extreme, as I understand it, the danger is from wild birds flying from infected areas into our domain. As Penguin is currently free ranging, I support Ken in the notion that we must bring him indoors and lock him up in Goatboys stable. – Poor Penguin!!

ModeratorRe: INDESIT WD12 PCB board failure
Hi Rose – Sorry to hear about your problem washer dryer. This error E8 is an absolute horror for us service engineers because its listed as a heater relay fault which does mean a new PCB> However, it is also a fault code caused by many of the components connected to this board. ie it could be a motor, heater, thermistor etc fault. Its a nightmare to cure unless you get lucky. Sadly for you its a poor quality machine and perhaps you are right in considering taking it to the knackers yard. Try your local independents member of UKW who I am sure will give you sound advice and not fleece you if you need new – Good luck

ModeratorRe: Help Yourself First
Well its not very often that the Matriach get annoyed at those of us within UKW, but to be honest sometimes we have to take it on the chin. So let me just say – Thanks to you on the top table – I’ve signed up to whats on offer and am very happy to be part of the guild. When I first joined we were getting paid £20 a job, now we won’t consider work for less than £35 and this only in two years. Thats the power of UKW – however, its a free country and like the elections “dont quote if you dont vote”

ModeratorRe: A Tall Tale – Part Deux
A grand tale :scot: but just shows, those initially that seem to be carrying gifts, quite often have a poisoned chalice in their back pocket. However, as the story illustrates every dog has his day!!

ModeratorRe: Vestfrost
We used to work on them, good solid machine, but what you have to ask yourself is; what its going to be like if you have to source the spares sometime down the road – from Comet!!
