    Re: Website Hosting

I’m pretty sure that most people just want an effective web presence, point of contact along with e-mail facility linked into the most effective site in the country for whitegoods, for which most trade members would be quite happy to pay at least what their paying now for a less effective service.

As you know i’m no net nurd but i already know that when you do a search on the web for anything to do with whitegoods this site comes up first every time. how many other web hosters could guarantee that.

As you know your web site is only as good as the traffic it gets or how easily it is found by the various search engines.

having a web site hosted by and linked into UKW would put you ahead of the game and that is what advertising and websites are all about, is it not ?

Is it poissible to come up with an ‘off the peg’ site where members can fill in all their contact details and brands serviced that could be up an runnin’ in no time.

If this could be done for a reasonable monthly cost then I feel sure it could be a very welcome service to the vast majority of our members and a possible income stream for the site.

Most of the guy’s will be paying through the nose for this at the moment
or not bothering at all, which is an oppurtunity lost to all concerned.

No Dave I dont think they are looking to employ anyone it’s just that I think they have found a bit of funding for it and I am told that apparently there are supposed to be only six assessors in the country.
I dont know if this is true or what the training involves.

do you want me to make more enquiries.

Re: Advisory Council defining it’s roll and members

    Hi Lad’s

Chris, that is exactly the kind of thing I had in mind nothing too detailed on the site but we have to be seen to be doing our job, to be taken seriously.

A more detailed adjudication will be sent to the complainant and the member with one kept archived in our records.

John, I think I goes without saying that if there is any reasonable doubt over a complaint. Then the benifit of that doubt must go to our members first, as it’s his reputation on the line.

Could you draft a paragraph to excentuate the positive aspects that the A.C. will bring to the membership.

I think it should slot in nicely just over the councillors.

Chris, please feel free at any time, to correct any gramatical errors or spilling misteaks.

Re: Advisory Council defining it’s roll and members

    draft 3

    UK Whitegoods Advisory Council

    Introduction

The Uk Whitegoods Advisory council was set up in September 2004 at its 3 rd. national meeting in Stafford
After the UKW database of independent domestic appliance repairers went live on the site. It was felt by a majority of the membership that an Advisory Council (A.C.) should be set up to monitor and uphold the Service Charter Agreement that each subscribing member has had to agree to comply with before their individual service and contact details can be posted on to the site data base.

Though we trust, that our members are some of the most conscientious in the land, when it comes to delivering a first class level of service to customers. It was felt that a system must be put in place to safeguard the integrity of the website and it’s membership.

For this reason the A.C. was set up to handle any complaints from members of the public regarding service received from UKW members via Repairs @ or whose details they have acquired directly from the UKW site database.

We fully expect as a council, to be the most under worked section of the site as the vast majority of disputes will always be amicably resolved between the service provider and the customer. This will always be the preferred route and will be insisted upon before the A.C. becomes involved in any dispute.

When this cannot be achieved and the customer complains directly to either UKW Administration Team or the UKW A.C. The matter will then be investigated by the A.C.
where an adjudication will be arrived at and published on the site.

Basically The UKW Advisory Council has been created as an independent body within UKW to advise, arbitrate, mediate and advocate on matters of interest to the membership of UKW.

    Councillors

    The council members are

    Chris Chantell

Chris Chantrell (Penguin45) Has been involved in the white goods industry for 19 years and has been a sole trader for the last 12

    Sean Delaney

Sean Delaney (Del) Has been involved in the whitegoods industry for twenty three years and in partnership started his own business sixteen years ago employs four engineering staff and two administrators. Previous to the whitegoods industry was an electrician for fourteen years with the electricity board

    John Mckenzie

John McKenzie (John Mac11) is a director of a midlands based domestic appliance company with 28 years experience within the trade. The company has 11 field engineers and 7 administration staff.

It should be noted that the A.C. has been formed from as broard a spectrum of the UKW membership as possible. Therefore it is hoped that it will be better able to represent and reflect the diversity of trade members that form the UKW membership.

    ……………………………………………………………………………………….

o.k. guy’s remember that this is only the introduction we will go on to to draft other topics like rules and sanctions later and seperatley but for now are we happy yet with the intro. or do you think it needs any more drafting ?

    Re: RULES

I totally agree, if there are trade members in the directories who have not signed the charter then IMHO they must be advised that this is now prerequisit for their continued inclusion in the database.

As such they will now be required to log a copy of their P.L.I every twelve months with admin.

    What say you John ?

I called round at the Millers Sibson on friday and spoke to Mike Sims the manager.

He said that there are no plans for any structural work to be carried out this year only some redecorating and new carpets.

I have to admit that the paintwork on the outside desperately needs a lik of paint.

I also provisonally booked the last week end in november for the christmas bash.

sorry we must have been typing at the same time when you posted your third message.

Yes a faulty defrost timer could cause the same symptoms you have reported in so much that the appliance does not go into defrost mode.

I would still try step 6 first though and if that does’nt work then just call in at SHOP@ here on UKW and Dave Conway will find you the part no. and price I’m sure he will be able to supply it as well, if required. πŸ˜‰

Re: Zanussi 59/32 RF freezer not cold enough

Right I would strongly advise step 6 because if the appliance has been run at too high a setting.
what happens is that the evaporator becomes blocked with ice and air needs to pass freely between the internal fins of the evaporator to become super chilled so that it can then blow over the food in the freezer compartment to keep it frozen.

If after you have completed step 6 it still does’nt work correctly then we are talking about a service call from a refigeration engineer.

    Hi Lynn,

It would suggest that one of the water solenoid valves is not closing properly and might need changing, not really a D.I.Y job.

As regards cleaning the filter I dont think that it is adviseable to be taking the back off the machine, i’m not being sexist it’s just that we have to be careful when giving advice to the public that they dont hurt themselves, as there could be a danger of electrocution or serious cut’s from sharp edges ect.

If the machine does not have a filter that can be easily accessed from the front then strictly speaking you would be better advised to call in your local ukw engineer.

Re: front page terms and conditions

    O.K.

Before you have a set of rules you need to lay out your terms and conditions.
and having stared at a blank screen for the last hour wondering where to begin. The thought struck me that the rules need to be put in place to back up a pre stated set of terms and conditionms for use of the service provided by the site.

Right, so i go to the front page and view the terms and conditions for the use of the site on the front page and guess what THERE AINT ANY !

I have copied the main welcome address as posted on the front of the site and it tells you where everything is, it tell’s you what sections relate to specific area’s of interest, it also tell’s you that certain permissions are required to view certain sections.

but nowhere does it state the terms and conditions that prospective member are expected to comply with an agree to before using our ukw services as with any other site or computer programe that I have ever used.

It also does not reserve itself the right to remove any member or advertiser for any reason it might deem neccessary.

I can only ask if the terms and conditions of usage are hidden away somwhere please let me now so that we can view them. If they are there then I appologise and would be more than happy to stand corrected.
I cant believe that this has not been done. but if it has’nt it needs to be done now and pdq. This is really a job for a leagle eagle not a set of novices. if it has been done then it needs to be more obvious than it is right now.

Any answers from the admin team would be apreciated.

    Sean
