On this occasion Ken is incorrect, when you remove the old hob you must clean off all the remaining silicon, use a silicon remover if nessassary. The new hob will probably have a foam seal pre fitted, if not use a silicon that is acid free and black in colour to match the hob glass, when fitted you have to very accuratley fill the slot that will be around the hob to make a perfect finish, also put little packers in at the first stage to make sure the hob finishes flush with the worktop. This isnt a 10 minute job and requires good skill and care.

I would put it back together, run it through a quick cycle, then PAT test it, if it passes you can do no more, you have determined that the earth is present znd the safety devices work so rest easy.

ParticipantRe: Dishwasher leg pressing against gas pipe
Looking at it i think i would make a platform for it to sit on, the legs are for levelling and should not be wound down that far anyway, 2 pieces of worktop with the top one longer and it will go over the gas pipe, the cables just need sorting then!

Wow, theres a lot going on under there, i would be horrified if my fitter did a job like that. Might not break any code but could have been done a whole lot better and normally when you do it better it tends to be safer.

Maybe this is the manufacturers way of getting more sales volume, the complete opposite to keeping machines going for as long as possible by design or repair, really good for the environment.

He was being constructive, Dont turn machines upside down to repair! Simples, there is absolutely no reason to do this, just like you dont turn cars upside down to fix them, no need.
Have you even considered that just because others have said they do it this way that they may also be just as daft. But hey ho each to there own, maybe they train the BSH engineers to do it this way too, maybe the service manuals show exploded drawings on how to do it, no dont think so!!
