ModeratorRe: Smeg Dishwasher DWD64SSE
It does a self test before starting anything, so it is possible. on machines with a display it shows F8 and shuts down right at the start. on that model you have, the error codes are not clear so I cannot tell you what your flashing lights mean. Check also the dispenser coil. If all are ok suspect the pcb board itself. The alternating valve seems a common failure at the moment so i would start there as its so easy to test.

No mfi model that complex I am affraid, but it is the alternating valve you can hear wirring, this has a microswitch on it that often fails. best take the thing off, (it just pushes into the sump) and test it. just four wires, 2 are the motor you can connect to 240v while the other 2 are the switch contacts should be normally open, (I think) and then closes for a second or so.

ModeratorRe: Hygena APL 8222 – Overfilling
That one doesnt use a float valve, it has a pressure switch. could only be a blocked pressure chamber but that is not an easy machine to work on and you will need an engineer. hope you dont live in my area as its a horrid piece of work!

ModeratorRe: ariston awd12 spinning fault
The wirring noise you can hear is the pump rather than it attempting to spin. Is it draining the water ok? there is a filter under the front plastic “kick plate”. Other than looking there its engineer time I think.

World class entertainment as John would say. Indesit have not one, but two, articles telling all the retailers how good the service is now stating that it’s as good as it was before Indesit bought Hotpoint.
I have to admit to chuckling a little.
K.
Yes I did read that and had a laugh that they have so many engineers spare they can send them into stores to “replace stolen knobs” on shop display models 😆 and get returned stock ready for resale in the “backrooms” (Anyone who has ever worked in a stores “backroom” will know they are just having a laugh.) how come then I get called out to under warranty stuff that the customer is willing to pay for repair rather than wait the 10 days lead time from Indesit.

ModeratorRe: Call screening?
Martin have you nothing better to do these days than put us off carrying out our work? Of course all of those faults reported are not “abortive calls’ but are jobs that need a visit and a price given for the work required (maybe the exception is the belling hob but even then I have been called to so called cracks in hobs only to find they need a damn good clean). And, maybe, that noisy hotpoint is only a blocked pump and a broken spring. As long as the customer is informed of and agrees to our charges there is no such thing as a “abortive call”. Even if the customer says it wants this or that spare, no one in this trade would still be in business if they ordered parts required from the customers description of their requirements and therefore an inspection visit should be arranged first, deposits taken or in my case full service charge up front and parts to be paid on completion.
If using your example, a customer asks for a door seal to be fitted I think most of us know that 8 times out of 10 it doesnt need one (overfills, leaks from dispensers, customer only just noticing that drain hole in the bottom despite having the machine for 6 years, etc).
I think your list of abortive calls is infact warranted and fair revenue that you have probably talked yourself out of, even the flashing indesit, more than likely just a blocked pump….and yes I do have a new machine in the back of the van….and you know which one it is too.eastlmark
ModeratorRe: Dodging CORGI regs to fix oven?
Martin, does that cooker not have a ‘stamped out’ circular section behind the motor that can be removed without even taking the back off and then replaced with some self tappers? Much the same way as microwaves have under the turntable motors.
Dont think I have ever come across a dual fuel cooker that even needs disconnecting at the bayonet (assuming the pipe is long enough) yet alone anywhere else, to change a fan motor.eastlmark
ModeratorRe: A Warning
Complacency! that is the problem. Its the sort of error we would never make when starting out but it gets to a stage when you think you know it all and all the risks. We have all done it and it is a wake up call. Toni has been brave enough to admit this when a lot of us, me included, would have kept quiet about that.
Always check with a volt stick first and check the volt stick on a known live source before that even.
Never trust customers to know which is the correct spur switch!
Dont trust cooker or spur switches, i have had a cooker switch that felt perfect but some bod had wired only the N contacts and I have had a spur switch turn itself back on a few seconds after I had turned it of, again the feel of the switch was normal, luckily I heard it click back on.October 8, 2006 at 11:41 am in reply to: Bosch WFT2800 Washer Dryer – clothes get wetter on dry cycle #191128eastlmark

your condenser is blocked, I think that appliance has a cleaning cycle you are supposed to run every so often. Look on the programme guide i think its called a defluff or someting like that. Run that programme a couple of times and see if it makes a difference. If it is blocked badly it will need an engineer as its a major job to remove it for cleaning.
