I did, of course have a shop until earlier this month and had happily turned away vac repairs for the last 10 years. Any engineers good enough to repair one should have been out doing proper white goods.

Do Indesit really offer a 5 years parts warranty? Not certain about that one.

Re: Whirlpool Tumbledrier start switch problem

Its not magnetic or anything but it is linked witht the door lock. Last one I fitted came with a bundle wires and complex looking bi-(read non) lingual instructions. May be a job for an engineer. Part number though is:481227618248
try here for just the part: spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk

or here to find an engineer near you:try our repairs@ service: click here

If you look yourself, remember to unplug first.

good to hear from another Archers fan!

Only thing to watch out for when sending a PCB in for repair is that they often come back un repairable which means a wasted few days at the very least.

My ad in Yellow Pages for years said “No Candys”. I am quite seriously considering changing it to “No Hotpoints under 5 years old”.

It’s junk. I know it, you know it and a lot of our customers now know it. I’d rather no risk my hard-earned reputation on this sort of rubbish.

Give it back to Hotpoint, not my problem.

    Chris.

Just done a quick check over thast 4 weeks Hotpoint WMA’s
    1 Pump failed
    7 sump blocked
    2 carbon brushes
1 susp peg out (Hotpoint engineer did bearing change in Feb this year!)
2 module blown due to chaffing wires, both repaired by patching.
    err…. bearings? none!

All of which were repaired at less than Hotpoints service charge at a decent profit for me too.

Oh and watch out for the Ariston A1436, despite Ari swing out dispenser, and EEprom module at rear, it has a WMA tub and door seal in it.

Re: WMA Drum 5 yr Guarantee

How does this work anyway. Do the “morally correct” ones tell every customer who phones up reporting a noisy WMA that they should call Hotpoint and get it done cheaper, hence loosing out on the coin in pump/bra wires/loose weights/dislodged susp pins/frayed belts/loose worktops or backs/whatever may also cause noises which he could sort out cheaper than Hotpoint anyway. OR conveys his morals while at the customers house thus charging them a moral charge for the estimate which when added to the Hotpoint rate would work out about the same anyway? Just wondered.

If its a washing machine intergrated from MFI then it is almost certainly a Merloni (servis) clone. Model number is usually behind the kick plate alongside the filter. Dont recognise that other number though. Try posting a photo to be sure.

I can see his point about returns, judging by the amount of customers who “know” their programmer has gone, regardless of the real problem.
Maybe if Tony were to attend the meeting and meet some of us we could come to some sort of arrangement with him.
They provide an excellent service, IMO.

Of course, another realy good reason for passing over wma tubs to Hopoint is that we can do 2 maybe 3 ‘normal’ jobs at say £60 a piece in the time taken to complete one. Is that morals or just good bussiness practice?

I charge around £130 inc vat for those regardless what parts were fitted or how long it takes. Its hard work for 90 mins or so + the workshop time building up an exchange unit. OK the other guy’s price may have been slightly over the top, assuming he is vat registered he is getting £125 odd about the same as 2 carbon brush jobs on a WM.

Yep, that picture has to win the most useless part picture of the year!
Actualy, we are fitting loads of these right now, usual complaint being the oven cutting out completely when hot as the cooling fan is not being initialised. ID of this part is not helped by it not being shown on TDS or Pro corner and it being offically described as a “thermal cut out” which it is not. It first appears to be just a join of 4 wires but is infact a tiny heater strip wired in series with the oven fan element, the current for which heats up a bi-metal strip that initialises the cooling fan motor after a while. The object being that even when the oven is turned off, the cooling fan will continue to run until the bi-metal cools down and breaks to circuit. Simpl? yes, cheap? yes, reliable? NO.

    Re: Charging Station

In this day and age, do you need a charging station? Mine rarely comes out of the stores. Just get a vac pump and scales along with a recovery unit. Will do most domestic stuff.
