could be waste water from the sink back filling into the appliance via the waste hose.
check the angle of the waste hose, if the machine wastes into the ‘u’ bend under the sink.

hi gilbo, a miele fridge is made by liebherr.
can’t comment on the other makes you mentioned, but liebherr is pronounced leebhair.
imo, the liebherr is a very good product.
have you tried looking at the frigidaire range of american fridges? they may have a narrower one.

check the components on the defrost circuit, fridge side first.
the problem is likely to be in there, probably the defrost heater.
if all the components in the fridge check out ok, then try in the freezer section.cheers.

franz, don’t be frightened of this job mate, it’s fairly easy.
you just have to loosen the bolts that are under tension a little bit, don’t fully unscrew them, or you will know about it!
i don’t have the tool and i’ve done quite a few of these.

the most likely cause of this would be the defrost heater, followed by the compressor, but as you’ve checked these, obviously not!
have you checked the condensor and evap fans?cheers.

liebherr recommended engineer? i’d call them again and tell them what you’ve been told.
F4 is a freezer evaporator sensor fault.
a system fault wouldn’t be shown as an error code.

simon, middle bar of fridge displayed means that the unit hasn’t defrosted within it’s time period (80mins i think).
this fault condition points to defrost circuit.cheers.

why not go for the genuine article, rather than american ‘style’?

hi andy, you may find the fuse could blow again some time down the line.
it would be worth changing the normally closed micro switch in the monitor circuit, ie the door switches.
it’s the closed one that is usually at fault, but a quick check of them all wouldn’t go amiss.cheers.

the vxo stat runs the appliance at a higher temperature.
we haven’t used one for ages, they used to be used on some candy models years ago.
you need to replace the stat with a vt9 or equivalent, which vxo clearly isn’t.
that said, what brings you to the conclusion that the old stat didn’t have long enough defrost time?
if the old stat had been good before, you may possibly have a system fault, i.e. gas or compressor.cheers.
