ParticipantRe: Zanussi DWS909 IWMS not filling
I usually fit the electric valve / pressure switch kit 50271495009 and then fit 50275890007 which is another pressure switch kit that T’s off the one in the other kit – takes the water level sensing away from the iwms.

I’d keep an eye on Goatboy too – he’s already signed his father up & apparently his brother could be on the way here too.
This could be the beginning of a Goatboy revolution…

ParticipantRe: Guess who’s back.
That has to be one of the best threads i’ve ever read :rotfl:
I reckon he’s legit. You couldnt make that lot up.
Should be thankful he doesnt live in this country cos he could just come and visit your shop one day…

ParticipantRe: AEG 74630 OKO Lavamat stops abruptly
If memory serves correct this machine has the same control system as the Zanussi which means that only certain error codes are visible to the customer (filling, draining etc) heater / motor etc codes are stored in the memory and can only be viewed in the diagnostic program. Would be very surprised if AEG customer care will give you the relevant info but it seems a real shame to just bin it.

ParticipantRe: Electrolux Fridge Freezer – Fridge Problem
Mossy, when you defrosted it, did you check the return air duct, its below the freezer evaporator matrix and if its iced up it will stop the air circulation to the fridge compartment. It looks identicle to the one behind the right hand salad drawer in the fridge.
If everything is clear and the fridge still isnt getting cold then its time for an engineer, even if the defrost timer is faulty the f/f should have worked for a few days once you defrosted it.

ParticipantRe: Zanussi ZD684w drain problem
If it’s an 01 then it shouldnt need the pcb kit. Start with the pump, take it out & check all the blades are intact on the rear impellor.
The pcb kit pulses the pump on & off 4 times when it drains, apparently to remove any airlocks in the circuit, you also get a new float valve which fits in the compartment behind the inlet valve – if you are fitting the kit make sure you change this too.

Look on the bright side Goatboy, if you really were a goat and your knees where that knackered you’d probably be put down.I use my trusted old garden kneeling mat, I tried using knee pads for a day, they hurt my knees!

ParticipantRe: What do you love about this job ?
Well I got into this industry totally by accident – I missed the train when I went for my CITB interview to become an apprentice electrician & by the time I got another date i’d had an interview for a YTS placement and took it.
Everyone had their own opinions of the old YTS schemes and looking back it was frustrating at times when youre earning very little and working as hard as the qualified engineers but It got me my city & guilds 207 and i’ve stayed in the industry ever since with a long spell at a Zanussi / Serviceforce agent and a brief stint at Hotpoint.
As a kid my folks dreaded Christmas & Birthdays because they knew my pressies would be in bits within days, its the same passion for taking things to bits thats kept me in this industry, that and the fact that this is the only thing I know!
I’ll never be a millionare but money cant buy you everything – I have a decent house, 2 cars, 3 cats and a fantastic wife, it’s all I need. When the boss in one of my previous jobs offered me a sizeable sum to stay i turned him down flat, sure the money would have been nice but as i pointed out to him money was never an issue – sanity is more important.
I share everyone elses frustrations with the cost of machines and the throw away culture – I was dead chuffed when the guy who posted here recently with the Zanussi FL1085 needing bearings stuck with it & got an engineer from the listings here to repair it.
Anyway i’ve dragged on a bit here so I do this job because I love what I do, I enjoy the variety, the freedom of being out on the road all day and even some of the customers.

ParticipantRe: LCD Television
I’d go for the Sony although the Panasonic stuff aint bad either. The only brand I wouldnt touch again is Philips after my dvd recorder expired after just 18 months, replaced it with a sony and the picture quality is far superior.
I’ve seen the latest 32″ Sony lcd tellys and i’ve been told i’m not allowed one until our current Sony crt dies.

ParticipantRe: Rangemaster 110 Fan element
The element is screwed in from inside the oven cavity but you will most likely find that as you pull the element forward the connections will come off the back as the holes in the cavity arent big enough to cope with the connectors. This means that once you’ve changed the element from inside youll then need to pull the whole cooker forward to access the back panel screws & reconnect. Not too bad a job just a pain when you have to drag the whole cooker out.

ParticipantRe: vans
On my last visit to the vauxhall garage i came out from reception to find 2 blokes in vauxhall outfits nosing around the van. When I asked WTF they were doing one of them said “we’ve got one of these coming in for accident damage repairs, we just wandered what it was supposed to look like”.
Bad luck Martin, not a Vivaro is it?

ParticipantRe: vans
Stick with the renault version if you want trouble free motoring – the renault mechanics should know more about them!
I drive the vauxhall vivaro version, great van but very badly let down by vauxhall mechanics – one openly admitted to me that he didn’t really know what he was doing with it, hence the fact that in the last 7 months its spent 6 weeks off the road. Everytime it has gone to a vauxhall dealer it spends at least a week off the road while they order parts for it, then because theyve diagnosed it wrong it takes another week etc.
It’s now on injection pump no.3 and I’ve just had it sent to an independant garage because the van started to rattle & vibrate badly, they found the wrong bolts had been used to secure the fuel pump and was virtually hanging off, this after i found the bolts missing from the radiator.
