Re: Electrolux Fridge Freezer – frozen fridge!

One word of caution – you will need the genuine electrolux thermostat for that particular model, the one listed above is a universal one and wont work properly.

Unlike most fridge freezers where the thermostat switches the compressor off, on yours the thermostat switches ON a small electronic valve which then stops the gas flow to the fridge, it is also possible that the valve is faulty.

One of the last Zanussi’s with an induction motor… check the capacitor.

There should be a small wiring diagram on the side of the timer, neutral for the timer motor, a live common feed, normally closed to the compressor/stat and normally open to the defrost system. (except during the defrost phase obviously)

It sounds like the common live & supply to compressor are reversed, quick check with a multimeter will confirm.

Tony Mason can be found hosting “Off the road” on one of the Discovery channels, Steve Burry was a total plank, then there was Steve Coogan’s brother who got the boot when he was done for drink driving. What ever happened to Chris Goffey – he was pretty nuts behind the wheel.

Didn’t William Woolard do “On the move” some adult learning series in the 70s?

I like the series as it is, hopefully i will get the tickets I applied for 9 months ago one day.

The other end of that “wire” sits in a small tube in the pastic air duct housing at the back of the fridge, you will have to remove the housing to do it.

I do take all I can on board when I go to a call i.e. toddlers, low income, single parent etc so if that is the case then I just give them the full quote for the repair and don’t even tell them about a by-pass. BUT if all they’ve got is a couple of cats and the machine is in a garage or something then I give them the option. Especially if it is getting someone out of a financial tight corner. I know I might be sounding a bit ‘self righteous’ here but so far the only comments have been against what I have been known to do in the past but I bet I am not the only one to have done this. By the way, 30 years in the trade and not one come back on the above. (I did get 7 recalls on snails up the waste pipe!)

Come on, be honest, has nobody out there ever done the same? However I do respect your comments.

I do not and would not ever do this… For a 30 year man you should know better!

I came across your posts tonight and had to read them twice cos I couldnt beleive what I was reading in a trade section.

So what happens if your customer decides to move the machine into the kitchen? – what if she passes it on to her own offspring when they leave home and have kids of their own? I’m amazed that you have gotten away with this kind of practice for so long, if you can’t fix it properly and safely and your customer wont pay for safe repairs then walk away from it.

Maybe i’m over-engineering here but if I come across a hotpoint wm with no door locking a quick continuity check from the plug pins to the lock terminals quickly tells me if there is a live & neutral feed going to the lock.

    Re: Tricity bendix impellor change

Simon, the 2 red wires are for the tacho control which is only used on the electronic controlled machines so if youre going to fit it to a dh102 just leave it disconnected. As long as the impellor has the same number of blades on it as the old one there shouldn’t be a problem, if it has more then it will affect the water pressure which reduces the water level left in the sump and can lead to overfilling problems.

The AEG will be easier to repair if it goes wrong with better availability of spares at a more reasonable cost.

Washer dryer in a family of 6 is a bad idea – go for separate machines even a compact tumble dryer if you have to, bear in mind that the 8kg LG will only dry about half that amount, in my own opinion if your going to use the LG with 8kg loads on a regular basis then I doubt the bearings will take that kind of punishment and they aint cheap to replace either.

Luckily father christmas brought me one, I havent got around to playing Zelda yet – too busy with Wii Sports & Rayman I’ll have a play later.

So far we’ve managed to break one controller strap – not by misuse though, wife caught it in the hoover :rolls: system has loads of warning messages telling you how to hold the controllers properly.

Overall its a great piece of kit, a bit tight that you have to buy the component video cable separatley, everyone whose seen it over the xmas period has been impressed with it… and gone away with aching arms.

Re: AEG OKO ARCTIS 2794GA – Frozen Water in Drawers

Sounds like its either a blocked defrost drain or the drain heater has failed.

Either way its a very fiddly job and it will need to be completely defrosted before any repair is attempted, I would suggest you call an engineer for this one.

I would go for the fascia kit, the springs are only available as part of the hinge which now come as a pair

If the door lock & the striker plate (escutcheon thingy) are ok then I would make sure either you or the customer speaks to Zanussi head office, they usually take that kind of thing very seriously and may wish to investigate it further regardless of whether its under warranty or not. The consequences of the door being opened at full spin dont bear thinking about.

Before you bin it Alexis, there is something you can check yourself.

Presumably you use the same program all the time, usally 40 degrees? – it may me a dud thermostat, your machine has a mechanical timer and a couple of thermostats mounted in different locations, if one fails it can skip the heating phase at the beginning of the wash which makes the cycle much faster. Simple way of testing is to try the machine on all the other temperature settings to see if they heat.

Hesel, the whole tub has to come out to get to the bolts – don’t try to remove the front of the cabinet it has to be done from the back.

I know its been said before but this is a very tricky job to do and worse still on a washer/dryer as part of the dryer system has to come off too – fair play to you for having a go but please consider getting an engineer to do this job for you. (see Repairs@) You could create more problems than you solve.

Maybe stating the obvious but I take it you have checked the plastic condenser for blockages, especially around the bottom where the tub hose is?
