    Re: Dishwasher Engineers 2??

But all those components you mention are electrical components. Could your electrician correctly locate the fault on a washing machine that overfills or would he dive straight in & change the control module?

You wouldn’t call an electrician to fix your washing machine, nor would you call a plumber and you certainly wouldn’t call in a mechanic so “white goods men” need experience of all 3 areas.

A washing machine isn’t just electronic controls, there are mechanical components like bearings and there are various water components, valves, hoses etc.

    To quote the collins dictionary:
“ENGINEER – a person who repairs and maintains mechanical or electrical devices”

    That’s us.

check the blue syphon tubes in the sump, also the horseshoe shaped hose underneath for blockages.

Funny how you “real” engineers never seem to mind when you need advice & assistance from us “engineers” when your machines goes wrong.

Are you for real or just a troll?

Re: Zanussi Frost free – ZX55/4W – Fridge warm after 1 month

Walnut, you will find the defrost timer round the back of the unit, turn it until it clicks this will switch the compressor off and the defrost heater on. After a few minutes the heater should be warm and if surrounded by ice/frost then you may hear some cracking sounds too. If the heater comes on then the heater & thermostats are ok. The defrost timer should give off a faint ticking sound when running so check for it while its on defrost.

The fan will run regardless of the door switch so if the compressor is running then so should the fan.

As I posted earlier check the return air duct up behind the freezer evaporator, it is easily missed if its iced over, also check the defrost drain for blockages. If there is ice on the bottom of the evaporator but not in the drain area then again check the air return as any ice build up in this area will stop the airflow in the fridge.

It’s not a thermostat fault so i would leave it as it is, fitting a VXO will probably make the whole thing too warm

Re: Zanussi Frost free – ZX55/4W – Fridge warm after 1 month

I think the mod that expertcat refers to is for the models with the evaporator in the roof of the freezer.

Check the return air duct for ice build up, its right behind the evaporator at the bottom & looks identicle to the one behind the r/h salad drawer in the fridge. The r600a versions of these used to suffer from problems with the defrost heater – Zanussi modified them to a slightly more powerful one to overcome this.

Re: Zanussi washer – model FLE 1115W – programs gone screwy?

Going by what youve posted it doesnt sound like a pcb fault, more likely the machine has detected an error and it will be stored in the memory of the pcb where an engineer can retrieve it by going into a special engineers test program.

The fault code system on your machine is a bit fickle in that it will only show some of the error codes to you, normally the ones you can resolve like filling/draining problems. Anything else is stored in the memory and the cyle will just pause or cancel itself.

You need an engineer for this one, don’t bin it just yet have a look at Repairs@ for an engineer in your area.

Dunno about bearing sizes but the tub design is similar to the Zanussis and will come out through the front. Direct drive system is easy – remove the pulley(rotor) then unbolt the winding assembly.

    Re: ZANUSSI1640W E50

The E50 code is a general code for the motor, you only get the full code by going into the diagnostic program (E51, E52 etc).

Sounds like its either the motor or the motor control (main pcb)

Re: Zanussi DW925 – Door springs?

Open the door & remove the 2 cabinet/hinge screws at each bottom corner, remove outer door panel, the hinges are fixed to the door by 2 screws on each side of the door so just unscrew them.

Now either tilt the machine back or lay it down, remove the plinth screws and take off the plinth, cut the cable tie securing the horseshoe shaped sump pipe to the metal front frame and remove the remaing screws that secure the front frame to the cabinet, you also need to unclip the pressure switch and the front frame will now pull off. Now remove the remaining hinge screws – the hinges should now wriggle free.

IIRC the springs come as part of the hinge assembly, the new hinges will be locked in position to make it easier to fit to the door panel so dont remove the little metal stops until youve secured the door to the new hinges.

    Hope this helps.

Re: Recommendations for a washer/dryer please.

Well, out of that lot, the Miele would be the best but obviously is over your budget (but you get what you pay for), the Zanussi, AEG, Tricity & John Lewis stuff all come from the same factory so apart from some differing features & program options will be pretty much the same so go for the cheapest, otherwise the Bosch would be a good choice.

However with a family of 5, unless lack of space is an issue then I would seriously consider separate washing machine & dryer, they will be far more reliable.

Could be the drain pump is on the way out, there is a thermal cut-out in the coil so it will shut down if it gets too hot.

Check the defrost drain heater – it’s a big stick-on sheet sits in the plastic housing under the evaporator.

    And power off, of course!

One air tube feeds of the top of the sump hose, the other feeds from the filter housing – check the condition of both air tubes, check the air chamber on the top of the filter housing. Also check the sump hose for blockages.

When it fills up on a wash it needs a signal from both pressure switches, if it gets a signal from only one it will normally fill to the higher water level then stop dead.

Check the supply voltage first, otherwise it sounds like the board.
