Steve, you will definatley need the genuine thermostat on this one, a universal stat wont work.

When you re-glued the cover did you check to see if there was a little round magnet inside – it’s moulded onto a plastic thread & screws into the end of the motor.

    Pull the plug first…

Re: Any advice re replacement machine?

If you want a decent machine that will last then it has to be Bosch, Zanussi if your budget can stretch to it a Miele.

Steer clear of the low budget machines, theyre a false economy. A Miele washer will outlast a Beko many times over.

Customer says it does it at the same times on each wash so I am working on the basis that it’s a timer fault rather than a chafed wire etc. It turns at the correct speed most of the time and the tacho magnet / coil seem OK.

Yep, that’s a timer fault. Was quite common on the FL1081 /FL 1084s.

Go into the diagnostic cycle & check for the error code there.
Not all fault codes are visible to the customer

No large amounts of gunge in chamber but a couple of coins in the main filter/pump assy that had got past the filter cage, wonder if these are blocking the chamber and causing the problems. I think the design and acccessability of the Zanussi pressure chamber/pump filter assy is one of the most hateful ones that I have ever come accross.?

If the chamber on the filter housing is blocked try this:

Get yourself a tin of compressed air & adapt the plastic tube that comes with it using insulating tape so that the tube fits the pressure hose.

Put a tiny amount of water in the machine then power off & pull off the hose from the pressure switch.

Attatch your compressed air can to the end of the pressure tube & give it a couple of hard presses.

Power back on & drain the machine, then reattatch the pressure hose.

Check the filter, the muck from the chamber should now be in there.

Fill the machine & drain a couple of times to check correct levels.

You may need to repeat the above a few times.

I’ve used this method about 5 times in recent months & its worked every single time for me with no come back at all. So far I’ve avoided pulling out 2 built in zanussis that were overfilling by removing the bottom panel & attatching a hose to the chamber on the manifold & squirting.

    Re: Double Repair

A few years back a colleague of mine (who Alex may know) was sent to repair a zanussi washing machine, later that day the office got a call from the customer asking what time he was going to arrive, followed by a call from her next door neighbour who had just returned home to find her daughter had let the engineer in, was unaware that her identicle zanussi machine was faulty but since he had now been and “repaired” it the machine was now flooding…

    Re: Zanussi ZJD1285

That’s a weird one, either the module down the bottom is knackered or theres a blockage in the air chamber / manifold / sump hose area. As far as i can remember there are a couple of pressure switches on that one and if one of them stops working it can do all kinds of weird things Also the dryer fan may run for a few seconds even if the dryer timer isnt set, it can even run briefly during the rinse cycle – dont know why but it does.

    Re: Zanussi ZJD1285

built in ones are a bit different, outer dial is sometimes only driven by one lug driven off another small plastic lug on the cam. Only takes a bit of muck between the dial & fascia causes the dial to stiffen up & either jumps out of the runner or snaps. The cam then pushes it around but the cycle indicator no longer lines up properly. If your lucky then it just needs a good clean up, if not a new outer indicator and/or runner.

Timer outer dial lugs most likely snapped, or the runner on the cam is broken very common on built in zanussi’s.

    Re: Zanussi Pressure Switches

If you’ve been tweaking them then it may be worth replacing them but it sounds like the problem is with the sump, the pressure chambers on the older zanussi’s were moulded into the sump which makes it very difficult to clean them, normally ended up replacing the whole sump when this happened.

    Re: Zanussi Pressure Switches

Are you sure its the pressure switches – normally the chambers on the sump get blocked.
