biggest mistake people make with smeg dw repairs is that they don’t wait for them to finish their faffing about bit at the beginning first. You need to let it run for about 5 minutes, sometimes they will fill and drain and do the same 4x times before starting up. Other than a drain or fill fault, no Error codes will show until its done this process first :/

Well im not too sure whats going wrong at the moment for us, I can only think it must have been AOs recent tv ad blitz that’s done it, but I would say 80{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of new enquiries this month have mentioned AO’s price as their benchmark figure in their initial conversation. The others have referenced JL. “ive seen a xyz on ao for £123”. we have converted about half of these to sales, but these have all predominantly been integrated, and with us having to shift on price to bare bone margins. the other half have been lost purely down to price. as previously mentioned, when AO now offer next day del for a tenner or same day for £20, and installation for pittance too, honestly where else is there to go? yes, there will always be customers wanting to shop local, and some willing to pay a premium for service too, BUT to exclusively go for those customers, in order to support a shop and rates and the rest of the shazam, you end up pricing yourself out of the market. had a kitchen fitter give me a list of products his client wanted. he couldn’t get similar appliances cheaper from his usual source (howdens) even with maximum discount, and wondered if I could do anything, and split the difference. I worked out on all 6 machines – hob hood dbl oven dw wd and ff we could make about £110 net profit if I matched AOs prices, (take off a tenner for delivering) which would be £50 each. Except AO now offer bulk discounts of £20 per extra appliance, which meant their clients total price would actually be £100 cheaper. Its sickening to know how the manufacturers can support an online retailer in this way. IF AO are operating completely above board, and there aren’t any nasty surprises like a windfall tax, then god help the rest of us. DRL are quickly monopolising the white goods market, and I can only hope that an “internet turnover” tax quickly comes in, if only to level up the playing field a bit…

If you really knew the answer to that you would be truly gobsmacked.
😉 Tell me about it, my adv engineering btec from back in the day has proved pretty useful in getting expensive parts direct from manufacturers down in price. We covered plastics production and electronic engineering to so ive got a fair idea how much a board would actually cost to produce. People think farnell are cheap but a 20p resistor is marked up by about 70{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} 😀
lets faces it, if you can get a pattern lifter from connect for £1.50ish then i dont expect it to be costing more than 50p to produce. in fact they probably use about 7p of plastic, but the retail price has to take into account how much the cost of producing the mouldings and dies are. Just like with the price of pcbs, where once designed, the production cost should never exceed a tenner, but then the retail price is directly affected by the cost of the R&D to design it in the first place.
The trick to getting the best price from hp is to facotr in transportation and warehousing costs so if a cost list from hp for a rear half is 20 quid, allow a tenner to cover warehousing and a fiver to covers transport and say:
“hoooooow much????… connect/qtx/mp are selling it for *insert cheapest supplier price* quid, but I know they cost *guestimate £35* to produce and warehouse, I know you guys gotta make a bit of cash on it so can you do it for say £45 inc vat? theyll go no way, and offer to match your suppiers price but will add del on to it. heres where you need to go “but its gotta be worth my while ordering from you, if its not gonna be cheaper, i might as well order it from *insert supplier*… can you do it 25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} cheaper than *insert supplier*. If they go yes, ask them if thats with std delivery or next day. if they say std 5 day del, say oh, i cna get it next day with *insert supplier* do it next day for that price and ill order it now…

http://www.hotpointservice.co.uk
just phone them up, haggle the price by telling them your trade and that a fellow engineer told you they got 25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} disc, for a first order ull prob only get 15{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} discount max, but might be able to swing next day del for free if your cheeky enough. order again within 3mths and youll get 25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} off, if it still continuing – itll all be explained on your invoice receipt anyway 🙂

I usually give hotpoint a quick call for their tanks. At the moment if you order more than once every 3 months then you are entitled to a 25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} list price discount, however, the other day I managed to haggle the price of a wf760 rear half tub from 90-odd something down to 36+vat+ next day delivery. They must have a lot of wf760 spares left to shift that means they wanted this machine to be kept going 😉

definitely seems to take long enough filling! top spray arms were cleared of a load of crap when fitted the pcb last week, but will check. base is well covered, its sorta salt cap height… cant think of what else it could be ?? Is it possible it could need the other board too?

im sitting on the fence, lee is speaking sense, but it could be misinterpretted as a little condescending 😉
Twix if it makes you feel any better got a customer with a belling 932 range cooker (made by creda) whos part is on back order atm. We he has found a zanussi zce 7730 thermostat on espares that he can get this week he knows will work, I asked how do you know that will work “because it says its for a main oven thermostat”… I hope hes confident enough the phial is long enough and that his knob will point the right way 😉gandh1

ParticipantRe: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?
Had a miele cylinder in for repair the other day, dropped off in the morning, didnt get a chance to touch it, so it sat out the back all day away from everyone and everything, it came in shop last minute of the working day when i locked up and went home, cust admitted losing bag holder and had kept using it and wondered why it was clogged up. So came in early next day, major strip down and defluff, steal a bag holder off a dead motor miele we hadnt got rid off yet, and new pack of oem bags to bench test.
All passed fine, called customer and her hubby turned up about 2 hours later. told him it was £35 including pack of bags (£10.99)… knew somethign was amiss when he retorts “got plenty of those already” so I replied, well it didnt come in with one and you wouldnt want me to give it back to you without testing would you, “no” so i needed to open a pack of bags to allow the cover to shut. “oh”… so he paid i handed it to him with the remaining bags… “ah no this isnt ours, its far too scratched and scuffed” and handed it back to me, I said oh right, how old is it? he goes “oh only 2 years or so” so i replied, so plenty of time for it to look “used” then. Again i hand it back “but we look after our things, i really dont think this is mine, and if it is it certainly didnt look like that”.
Now im irritated. “sir this came in yesterday and it hadnt moved an inch from where your wife put it down until i locked up and went home. It was repaired first thing this morning and hasnt been near anything that could scratch it” Ok he said well ill have to check with my wife whether it was this badly damaged when it got dropped off…” so i said thats fine, meanwhile i got my autoglm out and started polishing it up. Just to make a point 😉
Oh well it seems it was slightly scuffed when it came in, although i still dont recall it was this bad, but it seems it is ours. NO APOLOGY. now let loose time…
Sir, frankly I find it offensive and quite disgusting you can infer that i had damaged it when I have done my utmost to repair it at as little cost to you as possible. Considering you would have had to have paid £69 just to have miele inspect it and then pay for the bag holder on top, which is probably another tenner at the least, not to mention the additional delay of sending it off and recieving it. Had this been my machine I would have rung my wife to check the condition first before exclaiming “that cant be ours its far too scuffed” so he goes “well i wasnt saying you had done it” and i said so what ARE you inferring? please tell me, because if it wasnt “that badly damaged before it was brought in”, by default you MUST be inferring its happened here. Besides all the scuffs are gone now ive polished it up for you – Its now shinier than a field marshalls boot.Still didnt get an apology but he did walk away looking like he had his tail between his legs…

ParticipantRe: Bosch SMS50E12GB/16 E25
i did occur to me but then the machines barely 3 years old. its now also a tiny card built into the heat exchanger, so if its the impellor part rather than the pcb part failing its a very expensive repair! Did find a bit of gunk in the H/E which has been clearerd, and it worked like 3 times over before we re-installed it and bam, would it start up once back in? nah ah. Bloody load of crud – id liek to challenge DrDill to remove the bayonet fit pump on this SBV which you have to drop the base off, which is nigh on impossible. CRAP. /rantover

I think martins adjective is quite accurate.
on another tangent, just a quickie – trying to find info on a sbv50e10, which I suspect has the same technical issues this f/s version has. it just wont play ball – it will work sometimes and take water in but generally not other times, and I cant work out why. initially assumed it was the installation and hoses were getting kinked but its since failed to operate properly whilst outside the carcass too. Sent module to emw to take a look but they couldn’t spot any potential issues, but don’t have a test rig available yet set up for the new format bsh d/w’s. Did wonder if its possible that a component on the pcb may be overheating, and would the smv50 serv manual have sufficient reference to my custs machine?

Martin wrote:Those that go to any expense by having the bearings replaced anyway cannot afford to even go to Argos and buy a cheapie Bush or Beko. So their budget is set at rock bottom.
Never actually thought of it that way, I’ve always come from the perspective of its a 300-500 quid machine which wont get that spec/quality/lifespan from a £180 beko or bush…
Martin wrote:My advice for what it is worth, don’t do bearing jobs at all! Not worth it, too much aggro involved. Think about switching to specialising in high quality built in appliances, good money, better class of customer………Oh yes! 😉
Ah but we do, although most of our bsh int dw repairs are either blockages/suppressors/recalls – small charges, or impellor & seal jobs – big charges, when they actually go ahead with the repair. Other than that theres only mieles which we do do, but their customer base around here will often use miele themselves. And not so sure about the better class of customer, they tend to be the most impatient. Don’t have a bad word to say about the really needy who I have done bearings for, they are often at the least, very grateful.
