thing is atm, every customer seems to be out for a “good deal”. they will more than happily ring round for the best deal they can get on a repair. fair do’s to them, but at the moment the businesses that will suffer are the ones that turn around and give the middle finger to PITA customers. some people were born complainers/slow payers, and giving them short shrift tends to be more cutting off your own nose than teaching them a lesson, as much as we’d like to believe otherwise…

tony, we have got that a couple of times over the years, have found a *handwritten* and non-sarcastic letter, stating that it is such a shame to lose a “lifelong customer” works a treat.
something along the lines of
Dear Ms SoandSo,
It is with great regret to read your recent letter regarding our repair to your dishwasher. As I am sure you are aware, we went to great lengths to fix your machine in the timescale you required. This not only meant i came in to work during my allotted time off, but also outside of normal hours of business in order not to let you down. The repair also required meticulous attention to detail to recondition the part back to working order, in order to keep the repair within your budget. As you are probably also aware, we kept the labour down to the bare minimum for this very same reason, whereas local rivals would have charged more for such express service and manufacturers would be at least twice the price. In certain cases more unscrupulous companies would have told you its an irrepairable fault, or uneconomical repair and tried to talk you into a new purchase instead, yet still insisting on a call-out fee of at least a similar amount, if not more. As a valued customer, we would like to believe if you have called us out to repair your machine, you would actually like us to repair your machine, which we understand we have done so to your satisfaction. Therefore are we really being quite so unreasonable to expect our expertise in saving you having to purchase either an expensive part or even a new machine being paid for at what the industry would deem a more than fair price?
If for whatever reason you still feel we have fallen below the mark, that you believe what you were charged was an unfair amount we would gladly welcome your constructive critisism, in order to ensure this disappointment does not occur again. We do hope that you could take the time to reconsider your decision to no longer use our services again.

cheers jackal, thankfully it didnt need to get that far but they were in the process of lifting it onto their flatbed at the time, and i guess if we were 30 seconds later theyd been gone :/

and whilst on the subject, where do we stand with in house repairs on vacs etc? i have approx 30 now gathering dust/taking up valuable workshop spare that are ber, where customer has been contacted on numerous occasions to collect but havent yet. some range from 2 weeks to well over 18 months. one was a henry that was actually under 2yr warranty when it came in, cust was supposed to find paperwork and pick it up. but hasnt yet and that was 6 weeks ago, and its fast getting close to expiry. its got so bad now that theres dead ones waiting in the shop for people who ive been actually able to speak to who promise to come in, and havent and now getting lots of requests for secondhand/recon vacs, i suspect due to that… :/
Also… if a pikey nicked a machine that you had informed customer was ber, but waiting for customer to collect, say because they wanted to take it up with the manufacturer because in their mind its died too young, what level of responsibility would you be liable for?

if it assists anyone else i found a post on fixya/how2mend/etc saying a smeg inlet feed should be 3.6k, soooo…

arrgh neiiiin! see what you mean – i knew about the uk unavailability but thought id try and order it from siemens germany but it seems its no longer listed there. looks like the only way to get one is from a e-tailer abroad… like the one in my pic link

im assuming this is the international part no. i think its just bsh uk probably are not contractually allowed to distribute it for whatever (profitability/liability?) reason.
In the past ive had issues of waiting for weeks for s/o bsh parts to come in to connect only to be told by cust theyve given up and ordered it direct from bsh uk who have had it in stock all the time. And then i have had a go at connect who tell me they bypass uk depot and order direct from bsh germany. so maybe finally that setup is coming back to help us??

twix can i pick your brains??? when you say faulty, do you mean elements dead, poor insulation, or the heater m/switch has failed? only interested cos ive got a 6yr old classixx with the old fill/antiflood activation issue, but its clean as a whistle and had new jug imp and seals and impellor kit… hmmm

moonraker, firstly we need a recognisable enr number, it looks very much like youve made a couple of typos and missing a digit either before or after the 4, and i would suspect its supposed to be “GB/45” at the end. you will need to double check this in order for an accurate part quote.
secondly new modules are usually expensive, i know its 2 weeks time, but average cost is £100-120, and i know id rather wash up by hand than fork out that AND the hassle of fitting, and possibly even programming it.
patience is a virtue!
R.E. the US recall – not necessarily, i dont know the full extent of that issue but unless anyone else can shed light, its entirely feasible the problems affecting those machines were not related. would be interesting to find out more.
